As you may know, MiningWatch is not a charity.

We do too much "political" work – pressing governments for important and urgently-needed policy changes to protect communities, lands, and waters affected by mining, to ensure people have a say and that that includes the ability to say 'no' when mining interests threaten the integrity of communities or of crucial ecologies. This year, that work feels like it's been even more critical than ever as mining interests seek to turn the COVID-19 pandemic to their profit and we struggle to turn the pandemic response, globally and locally, into a creative, collective project for social and economic renewal in the face of the climate crisis and ecological overexploitation.

But a lot of what we do is research and public education work that does qualify as charitable. That includes non-political background research and publication, as well as support for communities affected by mining. It's funded through our sister organization, the Canary Research Institute for Mining, Environment, and Health. Canadian donors to the Canary Institute get charitable receipts for their donations.

You can make a donation to the Canary Institute here If your donation is received today, you'll get a 2020 tax receipt. You'll have at least one good thing to remember 2020 for!

Donate Now!

Of course, if you're not set on that charitable tax receipt, bear in mind that you can also support MiningWatch Canada directly here, any time!

Either way, I'd like to wish you all the best for the New Year!
