A special THANK YOU from some of our 2020 Rescue Tails

Lindi in Oman
Lindi on the beach
LINDI: Lindi came to us from Oman in the Middle East a few days ago! Stray dogs in Oman, called Wadi Dogs, are often the victims of torture, abuse or neglect. The government supports no animal shelters, and the only approved method of decreasing the stray dog population is shooting by police officers.  A small group of volunteers are saving one dog at a time, and sending them to countries where the dogs will have a chance at a new life! Lindi is approx 1 year old and 35 lbs, and will be looking for her new home soon!
CINNAMON & PUMPKIN: Cinnamon and Pumpkin were rescued from the shelter Thanksgiving Eve with bloody diarrhea and rushed to the ER. They had the often fatal Parvovirus and were in critical care for several days, but miraculously survived! The sisters are now 12 weeks old and enjoying the Holidays with their foster mom! Will be available for adoption soon!
SWEETART: Sweetart was turned into the shelter in very critical condition! Her right rear leg was mangled and broken in several places, and all of the skin and tissue was ripped off. Her pelvis was also broken and displaced on both sides. Unfortunately, her right rear leg was beyond repair, and had to be amputated. She also had surgery to her pelvis. Despite her condition, Sweetart is just a love bug, looking to ring in the new year with a new family!
TADPOLE: Tadpole, a mere 2.5 lbs and 5 months old, was brought to the shelter emaciated and struggling to breathe. We rushed him to a cardiologist at Texas A&M due to congestive heart failure and advanced PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus). Tadpole's situation was dire...a very risky heart surgery was the only option to try to save him. Many prayers later, Tadpole pulled through! He gets stronger daily, and should be able to live a good long life with proper care!
FRITO: Frito’s prior owners turned him into the shelter while having life-threatening seizures. We rushed Frito to the ER, and he started turning red and swelling, signs of anaphylactic shock! A wasp or bee sting was found on his side. With proper medical care, Frito has fully recovered and is now perfectly healthy, and looking to start the new year in a new forever home!
HURRICANE: Hurricane at only 5 weeks old and 1 lb., was turned into the shelter in critical shape the eve before Hurricane Laura was due to make landfall near Houston. He was vomiting, not eating or drinking, and almost lifeless! He was in 24/7 critical care at the hospital for multiple days, but finally pulled through, and is now enjoying the Holidays with his wonderful new family!
SUNKIST: Sunkist was dumped out of a car, unable to stand or walk. X-rays revealed old breaks in both back legs that healed incorrectly. The right leg had a badly broken femur, and the left leg a luxated patella and severe torsion of the stifle. Her right femur has been surgically repaired and she is undergoing physical therapy. Once her right leg is healed, she will have a second orthopedic surgery to repair her left leg. Sunkist is about 11 months old and 20 lbs, and will be looking for her new home in the new year!
CHESTER: Chester was hit by a car and sustained a severely broken and dislocated jaw and a fractured radius and ulna in his left front leg. Chester underwent orthopedic surgery to put his front left leg back together. Then had dental surgery to repair his broken and dislocated jaw. He is now good as new and living his Best Life with his new family in Georgia!
REILLY: Reilly limped into an O’Reilly Auto Parts with an injured dangling leg that was broken in several places and missing all the skin and tissue. The severity of his injury left no choice but to amputate his leg. Complications developed requiring a second surgery and lengthy hospital stay.  Reilly recovered, and is now a happy tripod enjoying the Holidays with his new family!
CONRAD: Conrad was brutally attacked with an axe, and found near death by the police. His front leg was almost severed, and he had deep wounds around his neck. After a week in the ER, Conrad was then transferred to an orthopedic surgeon, who was able to save his broken leg with plates and screws. Conrad’s foster parents are giving him lots of TLC while he recovers, and he is wishing for a special forever home in the new year!
JEWEL & JUDE: Jewel and her baby Jude were rescued from death row at the shelter. Their skin was covered in mange and sores, they had significant hair loss and several medical issues. Both were petrified of people! Their medical conditions have healed, and they are in a loving foster home learning to trust. They are ready for adoption to a home filled with patience and love!
GREMLIN: Gremlin was brought to the ER with a severely broken jaw by his prior owners who decided to euthanize him. We stepped in and took Gremlin to a dental specialist where he had oral surgery for bilateral mandible fractures. Gremlin remained in the ER on a feeding tube for several days, but fully recovered and was adopted into an awesome home with 2 other RCR alums!
SQUIRT: Squirt's body was ravaged with thousands of maggots! His eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and head were a gruesome sight to see! His left eye was decayed and had to be removed, but his right eye was saved with help from the ophthalmologist. His hair has grown back, and he was adopted by another RCR alum and family!!
TOFFEE: Toffee was on death row at the shelter due to a broken humerus bone and nerve damage to her paw. She underwent orthopedic surgery to save her leg, and recovered 100%. She is now living in California with her new mom, and loves hiking and other adventures!
HEATH: Heath was found laying lateral in a ditch, with maggots coming from the corner of his eyes, emaciated and non-responsive. After several days in critical care, he amazingly survived and is living his Best Life with his new family!
PENGUIN: Penguin was in critical shape when we rescued him, with open wounds, broken pelvis, and shattered and degloved leg. Unfortunately, his injured leg could not be saved, and had to be amputated. Penguin quickly recovered and adjusted to 3 legs. He fell in love with his foster parents and foster RCR siblings, who officially became his forever family!
PEPE: Pepe was originally adopted from a local shelter as a pup in 2015. Sadly, he was returned to the shelter in 2020 with a broken leg! His owners said they could not afford the time or money to care for him. We took him immediately to the vet who performed orthopedic surgery and saved his leg! Pepe is living the good life now in a fantastic home who understands what "forever" means!
LANCELOT: Lancelot had numerous medical issues when we rescued him including sarcoptic mange, skin infection, eye infection, ear infection, internal parasites, heartworms, and more! With great vet care and a loving foster mom, sweet Lancelot transformed into a healthy handsome man, and now has a pawsome forever home where he is treated like royalty!
COMFORT: Comfort was found stumbling down a country road. Her severely matted coat was filled with blood, feces, urine, and dirt, and had to be shaved. The fur had tightened around her leg until it cut off circulation, causing her leg to gangrene and have to be amputated. Comfort's teeth were totally rotten, and had to be removed during surgery. But despite it all, she has a great attitude, and is in a loving forever home where she gets to go hiking in Colorado!
