District 14-M Lions,

A new year is upon us. I hope that this year bring health and happiness to you all, and may our lives as Lions be enriched. Club visitations will resume later this month. Please check the schedule and let me know if your club’s scheduled visitation date is unsuitable. I have already been contacted by the Connellsville Lions Club and will be rescheduling their visit in the coming days. I look forward to seeing those clubs that I have not yet had a chance to visit.

District 14-M is still seeking a 2nd Vice District Governor. Anyone interested in filling this position should contact either District GLC PCC Dan Swincinski or myself as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made with the Nominating Committee to get your name on the ballot for 1st Vice District Governor. Nominations will be made at Cabinet Meeting #3 on February 21.

The new year also brings a new campaign to Multiple District 14. The Council of Governors and the International Family have decided that we are tired of looking at the mustaches on ID Larry Edwards and PID Jim Cavallaro. We have therefore come up with a campaign to both raise funds for LCIF Campaign 100 and as a way to get ID Larry and PID Jim to shave their mustaches. I have tickets for $25 each in numbers 301 through 325. Please contact me and let me know if you would like to purchase tickets. Numbers can be chosen first come first served. Please see the flier in this newsletter for more information. More tickets are available if the initial allotment is sold. I will also have tickets with me at club visits. For each $1000 raised, MD14 will select one ticket to receive a Melvin Jones Fellow or a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. The goal is to raise $10,000 statewide for Campaign 100 so that we can watch ID Larry and PID Jim shave their mustaches.

As the Holidays come to an end, it is time to get back to serving our communities and recruiting new members to keep the legacy of our clubs and District 14-M alive. I look forward to serving as District Governor in our “Magnificent District” throughout the second half of this Lions year. Stay healthy, stay safe, keep serving, and remember that “Kindness Matters”.

Yours in Service,
DG Jason Long

Message from 1st VDG Karl Jackson

As we prepare for the closing of 2020, we have had to say goodbye to some great family members, great friends, and some great lions.  Yes, our hearts were broken, our eyes were full of tears, and we asked the question:  What’s next with this pandemic?  Our clubs could not meet, no fund raisers, little community service, so we still have hope for a better tomorrow.  As we step into 2021, we must renew our quest to service within ourselves and our clubs.  Our presidents must encourage our club members to remain focused on setting and working towards our goals.  My prayer is that District 14-M will have a bigger, brighter, and blessed new year.

Yours in service

Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp January 2021

The Beacon Lodge Board of Directors met via Zoom on December 12, 2020.  Although many programs have been cancelled, many positive things have continued to happen at Beacon Lodge Camp.

The "Spreading Holiday Cheer" online fundraiser, while not as successful as we had hoped, brought in $1,295.00 before expenses.  We discovered that our members don't have a huge presence on Facebook and that an online fundraiser may not be the best option for the future.

The Board is hoping to have more Lions work days in 2021.  This would be a great opportunity for your club to spend some time getting to know Beacon Lodge by volunteering to help with various projects at the camp.  Keep looking for future opportunities.

Plans are underway for the 2021 camp season and applications for staff positions will be available in January.  Please share this with anyone you know who may be interested in working during the summer camp sessions.

Donations are always needed and several of the districts have plans for fundraisers earmarked for Beacon Lodge.  Please support those projects.

One easy way to support Beacon Lodge is through the Amazon Smile program.  If you are an Amazon shopper, choose Beacon Lodge as your designated charity and a portion of the sale will be automatically donated to Beacon Lodge Camp.  It's easy and you don't have to do anything once you sign up.

Of course direct donations are always welcome and appreciated!  If you or your club would like to send a financial gift , please do.  Giving is always in season!  No gift is too small or too big to help the mission of the camp.  You can mail your donations directly to the camp.

December Club Reports

Berlin Lions:  Over the past month, due to COVID 19, the Berlin Lions club activities were either cancelled or moved to a later date.  Our January 2021 meeting has been cancelled

Boswell Lions:  The Jan. meeting will be on the fourth Tuesday.  We are having only one meeting in January.  Members are out of town on vacation.

Confluence Lions:  The Club distributed 31 Christmas food baskets to individuals and families in our area on December 23. Total cost $838.64

Connellsville Lions:  The club donated food from the “Reverse Advent Calendar” to Connellsville Area Community Ministries. The club worked with other local organizations to deliver food and beverages to the area first responders (local and State police, Fayette EMS, Highlands Hospital ER), Connellsville Municipal staff, and Connellsville Post Office staff on Christmas Eve.  Gift cards were donated to local VFDs.   The club donated gift cards and meals from Bud Murphy’s to our friends at the Fayette County Association for the Blind in lieu of our annual holiday party.  King Lion Jim Wagner resigned due to health reasons and Lion Barbara Cassel was appointed to serve as club president in his place.

Fayette City Washington Township Lions:  Membership for the Fayette City Washington Township Lions Club remains the same as there were no additions or subtractions from our last report.
The following are the activities for the same:
    1. Club donated $200 to the Belle Vernon Public Library
    2. Club donated $200 to the Toys for Tots Campaign
    3. The Club worked the Food Bank on the 17th and 18th of this month with 15 Lions for 120 hours
4.Club sold brooms, trash bags monthly ticket and Xmas big ticket to raise money
    5. Club is meeting on a monthly basis with 15 members present at the December 3rd meeting
    6.  Club is continually collecting used eye glasses

Monongahela/Donora Lions:  Our club is still having successful broom sales.  Treats were given out to the children during light up night.  Sad to say we decided to cancel our Christmas party and meetings, due to Covid-19, for the remainder of the year.  God bless and Happy New Year to All.

Shade Lions:  It is with sadness that this is next to my last report

Uniontown Lions:  We had one club meeting this month.  We are continuing to collect eyeglasses at multiple locations and have started collecting multiple items for recycling.  We are participating in the Koeze nut fundraiser.  The club collected and sent 61 boxes filled with snacks and essentials to PA soldiers.

Waynesburg Lions:  Continues to sell bags and brooms, donate food to those in need, collect and recycle plastic and used eyeglasses, and maintain the park. 400 Christmas trees have been sold of which some were donated to local families in need. Koeze nut sales continue through the end of the month. Seventeen members of the club rang the bell for the Salvation Army in front of the Waynesburg Giant Eagle on December 12. Two members participated in the “reverse” Christmas parade held at the Greene County Fairgrounds on Saturday December 5. The club donated candy for Santa to pass out at the end of the parade. 56 members
The Connellsville Lions Club was very busy in December!  They collected and donated food to Connellsville Community Ministries for the Bill Swan Food Pantry using the Reverse Advent calendar project list.  They donated and distributed Christmas meals and gift cards to the members of the Fayette County Association for the Blind in lieu of the annual holiday party.  They delivered food and beverages to local first responders, the Post Office, and the Connellsville Municipal Department for Christmas Eve.They also delivered gift cards to the local VFDs.
The Somerset Lions Club with a matching grant from District 14-M We Serve donated $5000 to the family of 9-year-old Taylor Fetterman who suffers from Visual Perception Disorder. This disorder caused Taylor to struggle in school. No insurance pays for treatment for Visual Perception Disorder, so the donation will help the Fetterman family offset the costs of Taylor's therapy. She is currently undergoing therapy, and has become an Honor Roll student thanks in part to the generosity of the Somerset Lions Club and the District 14-M We Serve committee. Pictured are Somerset Lions Club President Chad Reichhold, Taylor Fetterman, her mother Christy, and her father Roy.
