Dual Flight Training from Wellington Airport

Tue - Thurs during the month of January

Have you ever wondered what it is like to fly out of the main international airport in the region?

Thanks to the help of our friends at Wellington Aero Club, we'll be stationing KID and Diego at Wellington airport next week from Tuesday to Thursday to provide dual flight training while the runway at NZPP is closed.

This is a great opportunity for you to get some controlled airspace and low flying experience. Wellington's L663 Low Flying Zone in the Southern Wairarapa is the largest in the country.

Head over to PaperAviator to book, depending on the uptake we'll open up bookings for more weekday bookings through January. We won't have another opportunity to operate like this out of Wellington, so make sure to reserve your flights now.

As 2021 approaches, so too does the bi-annual Wings Over Wairarapa air festival. Set over three days, the festival is unlike any other aviation event in the North Island.

Whether you are an aviation enthusiast or just want a quick weekend getaway with the family, WOW has so much to offer. In addition to the usual flying programme, there are fantastic ground displays and activities.

We are looking to get a group of members and instructors to fly along for the weekend. Please register your interest below so we can gauge numbers and sort out accommodation.

Tony's Weekend Weather

Friday, New Years Day, is going to be the best weather of the weekend, with a narrow ridge of high pressure initially over most of the country. However, a shallow low is expected to form over the bottom of the South Island during the day and linger through Saturday and Sunday before moving off to the east.  The low and its associated cold front are likely to bring showers to many parts of the country through the weekend, and it’ll be necessary to closely watch the forecasts each day to determine the best areas and times for flying.

Friday will be another lovely day in the Kapiti area, fine, with light winds, starting out southeasterly and turning to a southwest sea breeze in the afternoon. Current NOTAMs show the airport will be open from 0930 to 1920 NZDT, allowing plenty of time for flying. The cold front moves in early Saturday and it’s likely to be a showery day with northerlies 10-15kts. It’s looking like Sunday will be cloudy with 10—15kt northerlies and a slight chance of few light showers. Don’t forget to check the NOTAMs for Saturday and Sunday (not published yet) as they may differ from KCA’s original safety notice.

Have a happy and safe New Year.

How are we doing?

As part of our future plans for the clubs website and various marketing platforms we are looking for you, our valued club members, to write a review or leave a thumbs up. We need your help to spread the word about the clubs facilities and culture in order to help promote our services. It would be greatly appreciated if you could spare a few minutes of your time and head over to Facebook and/or Google and leave a review.
