No Time

Such is the protocol of the voyagers of Spaceship Earth, counting down the moments to midnight (and what else?) annually.  Time running out... for what, and towards what, one must ask.  'Good riddance!' to 2020 many of the humans recently proclaimed; but just what awaits around life's dogleg..??

No time to read CS' words?  No mind.  Less than four minutes to listen to a musical offering, then tidings from a sage of moons gone by? If the spirit moves you - click on the image above (Guess Who?), then return from that place to ponder the lyrics + the timeless notions of one Lucius Annaeus Seneca - all for guidance in the new calendar year, on and off the links...

Your golf rabbit hole deeper than the one spacedude just north of here is primed to get sucked into?  I understand, and can help.  Click below for ideas on remote and in-person coaching, on both sides of the border.

The Guess Who:

"No time left for you
On my way to better things"

Seneca:

"It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it. Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous amount has been given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested. But when it is wasted in heedless luxury and spent on no good activity, we are forced at last by death’s final constraint to realize that it has passed away before we knew it was passing. So it is: we are not given a short life but we make it short, and we are not ill-supplied but wasteful of it… Life is long if you know how to use it."

CS: You - on your way to better golf - wasting your time trying to improve?  It's time to either DO, or NOT DO, the 'trying' phase is officially over peeps.  Yet then again, perhaps you are part of the masses simply pretending to desire progress, opting for the "no time" solutions of our Intraweb hucksters, while shying away from what you know is the true path: a legit commitment of time, energy and resources.

And what about your precious practice time ('heedless luxury' spent on doing things you are already good at)..?? Are the skills, habits and patterns lasting, and transferring to the golf course, or not?  If your practice grounds moments are primarily of 'no good activity,' me thinks it's your time for a splash of Train2Trust in 2021; click below for specifics.

The Guess Who:

"No time for a summer friend
No time for the love you send
Seasons change and so did I"

Seneca:

"Putting things off is the biggest waste of life: it snatches away each day as it comes, and denies us the present by promising the future. The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune’s control, and abandoning what lies in yours. What are you looking at? To what goal are you straining? The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately."

CS: Sounds like our Roman philosopher saw 2020 coming - or did he?  More time spent being spent downgraded into the black holes of blue-lit screens?  Less time connecting - LIVE DIALOGUE (your dumbphone is equipped for that as well, did you not get the memo?) - with friends & loved ones? I understand the obstacles (I face many of the same..), yet we can choose human connection over device-driven discombobulation.

What have you been putting off, re saunters in the golf park, and upon life's daily sidewalks? Seasons and all else change, amigos - have you acknowledged, accepted and adjusted - or are you stuck in some vortex of expectancy?  Time to set those goals while giving a big hug (gone the way of the mask & dreaded six foot bubble/slippery down-hiller in 2020 - but soon to return!) to your omnipresent playing partner - uncertainty.

The Guess Who:

"No time for a gentle rain
No time for my watch and chain
No time for revolving doors
No time for the killing floor"

Seneca

"You are living as if destined to live for ever; your own frailty never occurs to you; you don’t notice how much time has already passed, but squander it as though you had a full and overflowing supply — though all the while that very day which you are devoting to somebody or something may be your last. You act like mortals in all that you fear, and like immortals in all that you desire… How late it is to begin really to live just when life must end! How stupid to forget our mortality, and put off sensible plans to our fiftieth and sixtieth years, aiming to begin life from a point at which few have arrived!"

CS: Golf courses saw record # of rounds & players in 2020, one of a plethora of the 'Vid's silver linings (and you thought it was all bad - like when you flub a shot and dismiss the fact that 'failure' presents a fantastic learning opportunity..).

What if, however, your next round was... alas, your last... Not to immediately OD you on the 'killing floor' in this novel year, but think about the ever-so-positive differences in mindset, attitude and response, if you knew you were on the 'back nine' of it all.  Appreciative for the opportunity to play.  Beholden by the array of challenges the game presents.  Grateful even for a gentle rain during the round.

For all you immortal Gods and Goddesses out there, by all means, go ahead - take your time. The rest of you?  What in the name of Charlie Woods are you waiting for, re betterment in the golf park, 2022?  Stuck in a revolving door of compensations, band-aids and waiting for a magical 'vaccine' to treat your golf ball's tendency to misbehave? No time indeed - to lose that is!

Please do let me know how I can help - then inject a few final words from Seneca into your days ahead:

"Make your life wide rather than long."

CONTRIBUTING = CARING

Nearly every week since late 2014, I’ve poured a tremendous amount of time, energy, and resources into the “CS Newsletter” offerings, which remain free.  While many in my vocation have chosen other mediums to communicate (and hopefully help golfers, and humans, alike), I continue to opt for the written word, blending pieces of music, pertinent videos and articles.  The intention: to authentically guide you - my fellow wanderers of the links and life’s daily sidewalks - on more fruitful paths.

If you find any solace or motivation from my ongoing labor or love, or if on occasion a message has managed to put a smile on your face, a tear in your eye, inspirited you take a step back and reconsider all for a moment - or even peeved you into positive action - please do consider supporting it with a donation.  Should you already donate, I THANK YOU.

“There are some good things to be said about walking. Not many, but some. Walking takes longer, for example, than any other known form of locomotion except crawling. Thus it stretches time and prolongs life. Life is already too short to waste on speed. I have a friend who's always in a hurry; he never gets anywhere. Walking makes the world much bigger and thus more interesting. You have time to observe the details. The utopian technologists foresee a future for us in which distance is annihilated. … To be everywhere at once is to be nowhere forever, if you ask me.”
