2021 is beginning like no other year in recent memory. The Scottish have a New Year’s tradition where on the eve of the New Year they open their front door to usher out the old year and welcome in the new one. I love the symbolism of that ritual . . . the saying “farewell” to the old so that there is room for the new.
There is also a great quote that says “You can’t reach for anything new if your hands are full of yesterday’s junk”. The New Year is an opportunity to let go of that which no longer serves us or that which is no longer in line with who we are becoming.
I am reminded of the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43: 18-19)
As you begin this New Year, I wish you the courage to let go of what you need to release and receive the new thing that God has for you.
Blessings,
Karen Willis
