Hello SBSEF,

Happy New Year to everyone!

Holiday Camp was great training, and it is great that we have come this far without significant disruptions.  However we have become aware of some positive cases within the SBSEF organization both with staff and athletes.  We are doing our best to stay on top of all of it, and communicate with possible contacts.  This is sure to continue and is part of the reality of operating this winter, and something we have to accept in order to keep going.  However, we are at a time of increased community spread, and virtually all the experts agree that the coming weeks are expected to be the worst yet.

Our protocols are not designed to prevent all positive cases, because we can't, they are intended to allow us to operate knowing there are positive cases.  Asymptomatic cases are common (especially for young people) and are very tricky because they likely don't know they are positive. THIS MEANS WE HAVE TO ASSUME EVERYONE HAS IT AND ACT ACCORDINGLY.  If you do not wear a mask (proper mask vs. buff) when around others, you increase the chance of spread and/or finding yourself in a quarantine situation.  Masks make a big difference, can't emphasize this enough.

If we see an increased number of cases within the organization, or in the community at large,  we may be forced to suspend training activities for part or all of the Team.  I want to emphasize that I think we can avoid this, but implore everyone to be as diligent and careful as possible to that end.  We have to evaluate the situation on a daily basis. The protocols are re-attached here (LINK), please review once again and adhere to these.

Based on the most recent recommendations we are not requiring widespread quarantine based on a positive test result.  (LINK HERE) We are however notifying those impacted and asking that everyone who may have been exposed to be vigilant, careful, and openly communicative of concerns.  We also recommend getting tested if you have heightened reason for concern and/or symptoms.  This is the only way an organization like this can stay on top of it as we do not have the ability to individually monitor everyone.

I do believe that in general we have done a pretty good job with the protocol, and have shown that we have a chance for this to work.  But we have to be great with protocol in order to have continued success in this current environment.  What we do while away from the team, school, other activities, etc is equally important and impacts the SBSEF organization. We understand that these protocols are difficult and even unpleasant for our athletes when they want to be social, but it is imperative to protect their season and the resort so that we can keep going.  Hopefully we can socialize safely until we can put this behind us soon.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns.  Thank you for your help and commitment to making this work.

Regards,
