TREK TALK - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Dear Adventure Traveller,

Happy New Year! I hope that despite all the turmoil post-Christmas that you were able to spend an enjoyable day with family and friends. I am sure many of you can relate when I say that 2020 has been an absolute rollercoaster. In February I completed a 3 week trip to Nepal not thinking that it would be my first and last overseas trip of the year. Having scheduled dozens of overseas trips to follow I watched as my best-laid plans disappeared from view!

It has been a very difficult year for myself and my suppliers. All of us are happy that the unusual 2020 has come to an end. I think most of you know I hardly sit still enough to let the grass grow under my feet, so staying put has been a challenge! It wasn't all bad though...despite all of the challenges this year, we have so many reasons to be grateful.

I have kept myself busy sourcing out the best destinations for trips within Australia, both locally in NSW and interstate. This saw me hiking in our amazing Blue Mountains and Wollombi National Park, visiting the wine country of Mudgee, and taking a road trip to North West NSW. Despite a year like absolutely no other, I am grateful to still be here. Still ready to lead life-changing adventures and I am excited to offer you many tours taking in all of Australia throughout 2021. Thank you for your support and friendship throughout the year. Despite all the uncertainties, we have spent the whole year as a footstep to return and look forward to a better 2021 creating beautiful journeys with unforgettable memories.

Despite still being in a lockdown zone, I can’t help but reflect on how lucky we are here in Australia. The New Year often brings up feelings of optimism, thankfulness, and hope as we leave the hardships of the year gone behind us and stepping into new possibilities. Until we can finally hop on a plane and send ourselves on a holiday, I would love it if you could join me in sending some of that hope overseas instead.

I have set up a GoFundMe page to support our much loved Ghale family (our local Nepalese tour guides and homestay hosts). As most of you would know I have come to see the Ghale's like a second family over the last 20 years and have supported them in various ways over years.

However, it's not sustainable for them to rely on one-off donations to carry the family through the uncertainty of this crisis. With no signs of international tourism returning any time soon, the Ghales have come up with a plan for financial security - A Goat Farm!

Every dollar goes a long way, and our financial support will help to cover initial expensive start-up costs and allow for a breeding project to be established. This will have a flow-on effect that will help the local economy to grow.
