"STRENGTH IN ADAPTABILITY"

General review of the event

Thank you to all the members who were able to participate in the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM), which was held on Tuesday, November 10. Due to the pandemic, the AGM was held virtually, by teleconference and by Zoom, not without some difficulties, which we will try to remedy for the next time.

For those who missed it, we invite you to view the AGM session here.

Strength in Adaptability

The AGM was held under the theme "Strength in Adaptability". This theme was chosen to underscore the key competency you have demonstrated this year, which has enabled the government to stay the course throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Indeed, it is thanks to your exceptional adaptability that the federal government has been able to maintain the integrity of its services and be responsive to the needs of Canadians, and we could not miss an opportunity to highlight it.

Two Special Guests

This year we welcomed two guests. Monique Manatch, who is an Algonquin Knowledge Keeper from Barriere Lake, addressed the membership for the second year in a row. Ms. Manatch shared with us Indigenous wisdom to bring us back to what matters most in this time of national crisis. Her words included the following:

"when feeling disconnected, reach out to others because they can share their gift with you and when you share your gift with others it makes your light burn brighter."

We also welcomed Hassan Yussuff, President of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), to give us an overview of the work of the CLC and the benefits of membership. His advocacy came in support of the resolution proposed by the members of Local 514, which was eventually favourably supported by the membership in the vote held after the AGM confirming CAPE's upcoming membership in the CLC family.

President's Year in Review

Greg Phillips, your president, presented a summary of the year's accomplishments and challenges, including COVID-19 efforts, advances in government relations, labour relations and operational improvements. A more detailed summary will be provided in the 2020 Annual Report to be published and sent to members in early 2021.

Finance, Resolutions and Election

The second part of the AGM was dedicated to CAPE's audited financial statements and the annual budget. Members also had the opportunity to get more information about the various resolutions and for the vote ahead.

Audited Financial Statements

The audited financial statements were prepared and presented by McCay Duff LLP Chartered Professional Accountants.  View the audited financial statements.

Budget

The budget for fiscal years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 was presented by Nick Giannakoulis, Chair of the Finance Committee. View the budget.

Vote and resolutions

Members were invited to vote on several resolutions and the three candidates for election to the vice-presidency presented their election platforms. Voting results
