PONNUSAMY WINS GEOTECH CENTER VIRTUAL GIS DAY MAPPING CONTEST

Nadine Ponnusamy, who is currently completing her Honours in Urban and Regional Planning at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) has made the university proud after winning an international competition, the GeoTech Center Virtual GIS Day Mapping Contest. 

Ponnusamy (24) is ecstatic after winning this competition which she feels has put her name on the map. Her map is currently posted on the Geotech Virtual GIS Day website: https://geotech-virtual-gis-day-kctcs.hub.arcgis.com/pages/map-gallery.

DUT’S MAHERRY IS APPOINTED TO THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE SOUTHERN AFRICAN ASSOCIATION FOR INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH

One of the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) DNA threads is to have a people-centred and an engaged DUT community, and living up to that concept is Ashton Maherry, Siyaphumelela Data and Training Officer: Planning.

He was recently appointed to the Executive Committee of the Southern African Association for Institutional Research (SAAIR) for the period of December 2020 to November 2022.

ALUMNA NAIDOO AIMS TO BE A LINE PRODUCER AND WRITER

Speaking to Alumna Alicia Naidoo, 23, who is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Journalism at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).

For her, her love for writing is what prompted her to study journalism. “Like most matriculants, I did not know what I wanted to do at first, I mean at 18 you don’t really know what you want but I knew I loved to write and that I could not picture myself being bound to an office space for the rest of my life. I wanted to travel, adventure and excitement and that’s how I knew journalism was for me. There’s that balance between the office space and actually going out. Working in television you often go out on shoots so there is that balance,” she said.

DUT WEBINAR TACKLES OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN THE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES DURING COVID-19

The Department of Video Technology under the helm of the Faculty of Arts and Design recently held an online seminar via MS Teams, pertaining to the prospects and challenges in the Creative Industries during COVID-19.

The main speaker of the online event was the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Video Technology’s senior lecturer of Television, Cary Burnett.

She gave more insight into the creative and cultural industry workings, those who are affected and the types of studies done that shows the issues faced by those in the creative and cultural industries.
