SPECIAL NOTICE: FREE Take Home Fun: Colored Pencils & Coloring Sheets Kits - With all of the stresses of life, we could all use an activity that elicits childhood nostalgia and promotes some good old-fashioned fun! Limited supplies available. Call the COA 978-371-2895 to reserve your set of colored pencils and relaxing coloring sheets.

Volunteer for the COA - Do you have some time that you might be available to volunteer?  The Council on Aging can always use volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels, help with programs, and so much more.  If you have a talent and are willing share it (play music, sing, provide a lecture or program) or can help with any of the above, call the COA 978-371-2895 to discuss.

Monday, January 4 & Monday, January 11 Podiatry Clinic - By Appointment; Suite 202 41 North Road, Bedford - Appointments will run every 15 minutes. The Podiatry Clinic fee is $40; Carlisle seniors will continue to pay $25 because of the generosity of the Friends of the Carlisle Council on Aging. Call the COA 978-371-2895 for an appointment and let us know if you need a ride. We ask all patients to come in the building with their mask on at all times, covering both nose and mouth.

Monday, January 4 Community Book Club - 10:30am via Zoom - On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder. No commitment required.  You don’t even have to have read the book to go to the meetings, but you may come out of the discussion wanting to read it.  Sponsored jointly by the COA and the Gleason Public Library. Thursday, January 21 Myths, Mysteries, and Spying - 1:00pm via Zoom - A one-hour presentation from Henry M. Quinlan, owner and publisher of Omni Publishing Company, on his 30 year involvement with the former Soviet Union and Russia, including living in Moscow for five years during the demise of the USSR and the rise of the new Russia. Some presentation features:
  • Three Great Mysteries of Russia
  • Soviet Union in WW2
  • Unusual story of Father Walter Ceszak, S. J. who survived 20 years in Soviet prison camp
  • Overthrow of Communism - Dismantling the USSR
  • Spying for the FBI
  • Publishing first telephone book in USSR since 1934
  • Publishing “Make Way for Ducklings” in Russian in Russia and installation of statues of “Make Way for Ducklings” in Moscow
  • Capitalism takes hold along with Russian Mafia
  • Personal encounters with the Russian Mafia
  • Interview with F.B.I. regarding dinner with Russian Ambassador to UN

Saturday, December 26 Laughter, the Best Medicine - 7:30-8:30pm online - The Bedford Citizen is delighted to sponsor Jim Colliton for a special one-night virtual performance.  Born and raised in Bedford—a member of the BHS Class of 1988—and now a professional stand-up comedian, Jim has performed all over the Boston area and beyond.  His family-friendly act is relevant, clever, and absolutely hilarious. Registration is required, but there is no charge for this event. Link here to register.

Monday, January 4 - Sunday, January 17 Zoo Lights - Stoneham Zoo - This winter wonderland will take you on a one-way stroll through the Zoo, along tree-lined paths lit by twinkling lights. Spanning the Zoo's 26 acres, walk through the beautifully-lit Yukon Creek and see black bears, a bald eagle, Canada lynx, arctic foxes, and even reindeer!  Link here to purchase tickets; they sell out quickly!!
