We are sending you one more 2020 wish for a healthy and happy holiday and a better 2021. We have dusted off a couple of memories that we hope you will enjoy! The first time Delbert was recognized for his lyric writing was when he was in high school and won first place in a Christmas poetry contest. Who knew that would lead to a career in songwriting and poetry?
Our favorite holiday gift for you is the first recording of Delbert's "Two More Bottles of Wine." The tapes had been in Earl McGrath's (Clean Records) closet since the first Delbert and Glen sessions. Those tapes were recently given to Delbert, and Delbert's longtime guitar player, James Pennebaker took on the project of digitizing the tapes and figuring out what they were.
We will share more of these buried treasures along the way, and a more in-depth story about the details. But for now, enjoy this very young Delbert with a guitar, recording a scratch demo of "Two More Bottles of Wine."

Another Delbert Fave: Baked Chicken and Artichokes
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Combine 1 cup of shaved or grated Parmesan cheese with 1 can drained, quartered artichoke hearts (not marinated), and fold in 1 cup of mayonnaise. Add 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder.
Cut up two boneless chicken breasts or use one package of chicken tenders. Lightly coat chicken with panko crumbs and saute in olive oil or butter until lightly browned.
Place chicken in baking dish. Cover with the artichoke mayonnaise mixture and bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes.
Serve over pasta.
Variation: Add fresh spinach and/or mushrooms to the Parmesan before folding in the mayonnaise.

One good thing to come from the COVID Self-Isolation of 2020 is that animal shelters and rescue organizations are finding more fur-ever homes than ever for cats and dogs. Here are a few pictures of the latest member of the McClinton family relaxing and exploring her new digs. If you cannot commit to adopting a pet, remember that shelters and rescue groups can always use donations.

A Christmas Poem: Delbert's first published work
Songwriting has been a key to Delbert’s unique brand. Before writing songs, he began writing poetry in high school. In fact, his first published work was in the Arlington Heights school newspaper, the Jacket Journal (December 19, 1957). “Everyone in my English class had to write a Christmas poem for a contest. I won. It was published on the front page of the school newspaper – ‘Christmas To The Blind,’ and it described all of the things a blind person might see and smell, and the excitement surrounding Christmas without being able to see them."
In an interview for the Delbert biography, he recites from memory:

“If you’ve ever talked to a blind boy about Christmas on Christmas Eve
You’d find he has a more beautiful Christmas than we could hope to see…
The excited voices, the scent of the trees are visions of a storybook rhyme.
His heart will be filled with Christmas cheer, and we’ll be the ones who are blind,”
