Minute With the CEO

We are very close to being able to put 2020 behind us. I know so many of you have struggled greatly this year; but if these times have taught us anything, it is that our communities are able to pull together and help those in need.

I'd like to thank all of our volunteers and members from the bottom of my heart. I'd also like to express my sincere gratitude to the Volunteering Sunshine Coast team for their hard work.

I wish you all a happy new year.

Until next year,

Cheryl

Have a Happy New Year

From the whole Volunteering Sunshine Coast team, we hope you all had a safe and Merry Christmas and are looking forward to a Happy New Year.

Thank you to the volunteer community whose work this year under very difficult circumstances was invaluable to the well-being of the most vulnerable members of our society.

To our members, we cannot thank you enough for the services you provide and we look forward to continuing our work together for the benefit of our community.

Let's hope 2021 brings better times.

"Inspiring Youth Volunteering" Submissions closed

Submissions for our "Inspiring Youth Volunteering" project are now closed. We cannot thank all who put forward a nomination enough. The stories we have received are truly inspiring and we cannot wait to share those chosen for the project.

Stay tuned for the video highlighting these exceptional young volunteers. We hope their stories can encourage other young people to give volunteering a try.

Lift Project Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast Council has partnered with Lift Lifestyle Medicine to offer
The Lift Project Sunshine Coast. It is free to all current Sunshine Coast Local Government area residents.

The program is an online wellbeing program presented by wellbeing expert Dr Darren Morton. It draws together the latest research from Neuroscience, Lifestyle Medicine and Positive Psychology. The program explores ten wellbeing-enhancing topics over ten weeks. These have an emphasis on improving your mental wellbeing.

The lessons are comprehensive and explore the science around that week’s theme. Lessons are easy to understand and designed to be both fun and educational. They provide strategies to help:

  • manage stress and anxiety
  • better deal with challenges
  • improve vitality, resilience and life satisfaction.

The lessons are suitable for everyone. They will take you on a scientifically proven journey to lift your mood and your life - both of which are needed in these unprecedented times!

Once registered and the program commences you receive an email and link to a short video lesson. These come each week for 10 weeks along with a weekly challenge to action what you have learnt. You are encouraged to keep an e-journal. Your learnings and reflections each week should written and shared with the program's private Facebook group, your friends and family.

There have been two rounds of The Lift Program Sunshine Coast this year. Close to 4,000 Sunshine Coast residents joined this free uplifting journey. Their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The program makes a real change in the lives of many.

Registration for round three is currently open and will close 31 January 2021.

The program starts Monday 8 February 2021 and ends Sunday 25 April 2021.

Naradell Information Group

Mental illness affects not only the individual, but also those who care for them, or care about them. This could be family or friends, but whatever the relationship it is important to feel support is available. Gathering of information can provide a greater insight and understanding and we can also learn by sharing our experiences with those who understand.

Meetings are open to all who care for, or care about, those living with a mental illness, or perhaps you care for yourself.
All are welcome including those who work or volunteer in the mental health sector.

Next meeting:
2 pm - 4 pm Monday, 1 February 2021
Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre
2 Fifth Avenue, Maroochydore

Guest Speaker:
Lynn Harris, Wellways Australia
Coordinator Community Engagement and Volunteering

With the changes to carer support in 2020 and the introduction of the Carer Gateway, Lyn will be discussing what Wellways has to offer for carers.
