Palo Alto City Library
Well, 2020 is finally over and we’re all hopeful for a better New Year! Here is what’s happening at the Palo Alto City Library  this January:
The Library will continue to provide modified Sidewalk Service during the state’s Regional Stay at Home Order
  • Holds can be picked up (by appointment only!) on your designated day and time outside Mitchell Park or Rinconada Libraries.
  • Schedule an appointment online or by phone (650-329-2436).
  • Cancel any holds you no longer need by email, phone, (650-329-2436), or log into your account.
  • Returns are collected Tuesday through Saturday from 12–5 PM at Mitchell Park & Rinconada Libraries, and on weekends at Downtown and College Terrace book return slots.
  • These temporary changes to services are to ensure the health and safety of our staff and community, and to align with the City’s policies on essential services during this time. Find out more about the State’s Regional Stay at Home Order and additional restrictions at covid19.ca.gov.

Appeal Mixer in Novelist Plus

Here’s a librarian search trick you might not know about! This service now covers *all* reading levels from kids to adults. The appeal mixer is an experimental search option that allows you to discover new books or authors based on an entirely different set of categories or genres than we normally use in our catalog. Search by tone, story pace, character development, and even writing style. Curious what you might find? Log in with your library account and try the appeal mixer link on their homepage.

Staff Picks

While this was not the year any of us had expected, we were quite fortunate to still be whisked away (when we couldn't go anywhere!) through story, film and music. Check out PACL Staff's Best of 2020!
