New Year’s Eve will look and feel very different in Cornwall with the new tier three restrictions in place.

This year we are asking residents not to gather in the usual places and celebrate at home wherever they can.

Help us to protect each other, the NHS and social care by following the rules and enjoy the festive season safely and at home.

Tier changes in Cornwall

Yesterday the changes were announced that have placed Cornwall in tier three - this means there will be a new guidelines to follow.

The key changes are;

You must not meet socially indoors with anybody you do not live with or have a support bubble with. You can meet people you do not live with in a group of up to six in some outdoor spaces, including parks, beaches and playgrounds, but not in private gardens.
Pubs and other hospitality venues must close but can provide a delivery and takeaway service.
Holidaymakers already in Cornwall are being urged to make their way home as soon as possible while people from outside the county should not be making plans to visit.
You can travel within your area for work, education and to provide care or medical assistance. However, you should avoid travelling outside your area and reduce the number of journeys you make wherever possible.
You must continue to follow Tier 3 rules when you travel to lower tiers.
Non-essential shops can open, as can gyms, hairdressers and other personal care businesses. Places of worship can open and weddings are allowed within local restrictions.
Hotels and other accommodation providers must also close, unless they are needed for specific work purposes where people cannot return home.
Outdoor sports, including golf and tennis, can continue, as can amateur team sports such as football. But unlike Tiers 1 and 2, spectators cannot go to a stadium to watch sport in Tier 3.
Everyone who can work from home should do so.

Schools in Cornwall

From next Monday (4^th January 2021) primary schools in Cornwall will reopen. Secondary schools will open for vulnerable children and those of key workers only.

Children from years 11 and 13 then return to school on the 11^th, before all secondary school pupils return on the 18^th of January.

The staggered returns have been put in place to allow schools time to implement their own testing plans. School transport will remain unchanged and will run as normal from January 4^th.

Covid and businesses

With Cornwall moving into Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions from midnight, we are reminding businesses of both the new rules and the support available to help navigate this difficult time.

Foodbank map

A new interactive map has been launched showing all emergency food support in towns and villages throughout Cornwall.

Christmas tree collection

We'll collect your real Christmas tree for recycling when you're finished with it. Just place your tree near your rubbish on the opposite week to your recycling in the weeks beginning January 11 or 18 for free collection - it will then be shredded and composted. >>> https://bit.ly/3aV12JY

Domestic Abuse

Support for those living with domestic abuse is available from Safer Futures. People can make a referral online, email saferfutures@firstlight.org.uk or ring 0300 777 4777. There is also refuge and support via the Cornwall Refuge Trust website and their 24 hour helpline 01872 225629.
