What Is A Standard Drink? - A standard drink contains 10 grams of pure alcohol. The type of alcohol makes no difference, 10 grams of alcohol is 10 grams of alcohol, whether it is in beer, wine or spirits. It does not matter whether it is mixed with soft drink, fruit juice, water or ice. The updated Australian Guidelines to Reduce Health Risks from Drinking Alcohol Guidelines are:
    To reduce the risk of harm from alcohol-related disease or injury, healthy men and women should drink no more than 10 standard drinks a week and no more than 4 standard drinks on any one day. The less you drink, the lower your risk of harm from alcohol.
    To reduce the risk of injury and other harms to health, children and people under 18 years of age should not drink alcohol.
    To prevent harm from alcohol to their unborn child, women who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy should not drink alcohol. For women who are breastfeeding, not drinking alcohol is safest for their babies.

Did you know over 90% of WA is bushfire prone?
Odds are you live in or near such an area, so it’s important to be prepared and plan ahead to keep safe in the event of a fire. You can check if you live in a bushfire-prone area using the bushfire prone area map. While leaving high-risk bushfire areas is the safest option, if you choose to stay and defend your home, you need to have an independent water supply, such as water tanks, and a means to pump the water in the event of power loss, such as a generator. For more information.

My Bushfire Plan - is the focus of DFES’ 2020/21 bushfire campaign, called ‘How fireproof is your plan?’ The campaign will be live throughout the summer months to remind Western Australians of their bushfire risk and direct them to My Bushfire Plan to make their plan. Community can be better prepared for bushfire by downloading the My Bushfire Plan app Google Play / Apple App Store on their device.

To receive Harvest/ Vehicle movement ban notifications via an SMS, please register your details here.
Do You Have The Enough Water For Your Fire Plan?
Ensuring you have an adequate water supply is an important part of bushfire planning. WA water rules support landholders or occupants in ‘at risk’ bushfire areas with groundwater bores and access to surface water from rivers, streams and creeks. This includes those with access to scheme water, which the government advises should not be relied upon in times of bushfire. Both water licensees and unlicensed water users with domestic garden bores and/or riparian rights to stock and domestic water, can prepare for a bushfire by taking and storing water as part of their bushfire emergency plan.
In the case of licensed water users, this water does not count as part of your annual entitlement, and it is recommended you keep a record of the amount of water taken to support your fire plan and that you ensure it is used for emergency fire situations only.
Landholders factoring water availability in a fire plan need to make sure water is accessible and address other issues such as emergency power to run bores and pumps.

What Is Lifeline?
Lifeline WA’s is a community service that offers free grief and bereavement counselling to families, parents, young people or children affected before, during or after separation, a bereavement or loss. Bereavement is traditionally linked to death and the grief felt after the loss of a loved one. However, feelings of bereavement can also be associated with other loss such as the loss of a relationship; loss of a pet; loss of a job; a change to your way of life; or loss of important possessions. Grief is a normal response to life events and everyone will go through this, to varying degrees, at some point in their lives.
Separation can be a difficult time for families, particularly for children who are often confused about changes in their lives. Lifeline WA’S Free Separated Mums and Dads program is a unique service that provides support to parents and their children before, during and after separation. Children are invited to meet with a Lifeline WA counsellor when it’s appropriate, for the children’s views and feelings to be heard. Children’s feedback helps parents and carers to develop parenting plans that are in their child’s best interests. Extended family members, including step parents and grandparents, may also access the program. To book a place in one of the workshops or for a counselling appointment: Phone: (08) 9261 4444  /  Email / Video and telephone counselling is available to residents throughout WA. For more informationFor crisis support Call 13 11 14. / If your life is in immediate danger, call 000.  To chat online to an online crisis supporter. Online chat is available from 7pm to 12am (AEST) every day.

NOT-FOR-PROFIT LAW

Do you know of any clubs or associations that no longer exist?
If your club or association is no longer operating and has not officially wound up, then we want to hear from you.  Consumer Protection can be notified about inactive associations by completing a very simple 'report a defunct association' online form.
It is helpful if you can provide information about:

  • The club or association’s last known contact details;
  • When you believe it stopped operating; and
  • Details of the former committee members.

If you are unsure if your club or association is still registered, please check its status by searching on AssociationsOnline . Information for clubs and associations thinking about winding up is available from the Inc Guide under – Deregistering an association's incorporation.

The SafeWA app has been updated, to improve the experience for everyone who has taken the opportunity to use it as a contact register. The use of SafeWA to maintain a contact register, while encouraged, is optional. Businesses should not deny entry to patrons if they do not have the SafeWA app. When a paper-based contact register is used as an alternative, businesses must protect the privacy of patrons and contact information should not be visible. There is a toolkit available for businesses to help in communicating with their stakeholders about the contact register. A poster that can be displayed next to a venue’s unique QR code has also been translated into 28 languages. This, together with a fact sheet and templates for paper-based registration is available on the advice in other languages page. Templates allowing businesses to print and cut individual slips for patrons to fill out and drop into a secure ballot-style box is also available.

Fundraising Resources -  To help you work out whether your fundraising is covered by fundraising laws, and whether you need to get a licence or approval. There are different fundraising laws in each state and territory, so if you are fundraising online you may need to consider the laws in each of those places.
