Federal CARES Act Provides New Benefits for Charitable Giving in 2020

At the end of a tumultuous year that has brought many challenges to so many, we at OHMTEC are grateful for the generosity of our donors who are propelling us ever closer to the goal of saving Highland Farm!

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act provides unique opportunities to maximize the benefits of charitable giving this year. These include: donors who do not itemize may take a one-time adjustment to income of $300 for cash gifts; donors who itemize may claim a charitable deduction for up to 100% of their adjusted gross income; suspension of Required Minimum Distribution from individual retirement accounts; donors age 70 ½ or older may give as much as $100,000 directly from an IRA plan to a qualified charity. Please consult with your professional advisors on how the CARES Act may apply to you.

With these temporary incentives in place for the tax year 2020 only, we humbly ask you to consider an end-of-year gift to OHMTEC. Please visit the donor page of our website to give by PayPal or credit card or you may mail a check to the address provided at the end of this newsletter.

A charitable contribution of appreciated securities is another tax-efficient way to give. Please contact Christine Junker, Treasurer, at oscarhammersteincenter@gmail.com for stock transfer instructions.

With your help, we will be able to:

Purchase, restore and preserve Oscar Hammerstein's former home and creative epicenter to make it accessible to people the world over.
Develop a robust Theatre Education Center that will provide underserved communities the opportunity to pursue their passions in theatre.
Amplify Oscar Hammerstein's message of inclusion and acceptance, as relevant today as when he penned the lyrics to the world's most beloved musicals.

All gifts through December 31 will be matched 100% up to $15,000.

Donors of $100 or more will receive a copy of musician and artist Andrea Carlson's CD, "Out of My Dreams," the Songs of Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers.
