2021 Parks Forum Meeting Dates

The minutes from our October meeting are now on our website.

The provisional dates for 2021 (all Saturdays) are 13th February, 15th May, 16th October.  The February meeting will certainly be on zoom. We hope that by May (and certainly by October) we will be back to normal meetings, it which case we may have to change the dates depending on venue availability.

Thank You Park Heroes

It was great to see such a good turnout for this zoom event organised by the Bristol & Bath Parks Foundation yesterday morning.

If you weren’t able to make (or if you want to watch again) you can see a recording here.

The thank you message from Cllr Asher Craig starts at 38mins – and if you want to see how close you came to winning a prize on the spinning wheel then go to 44mins

The event included a thank you video from Parks Service staff in both cities, the Bristol video can be seen here while the Bristol & Bath Parks Foundation facebook page has the longer version including staff from both Bristol and Bath (you don’t have to have a facebook login to watch it).

Please do share this video with your group members.

BBPF Park Volunteer Support 2021 Survey

Part of yesterday’s event was for groups to tell the Parks Foundation what support they felt would be useful next year. The Parks Foundation has secured a small amount of funding to develop training and development resources to support parks groups from January - April 2021.

Some ideas were captured in the breakout sessions, but the Foundation are keen to hear more and to give those who couldn’t attend a chance to contribute.

Please complete this survey by Monday 11th Jan 2021 so that Charlee and the team can start to put together a programme. We are after as many ideas as possible so are more than happy to have responses from different members of your group.

Volunteering Update

The volunteering page on the BPF website has the latest information. The change to tier 2 doesn’t make any significant difference and it looks like limits on numbers (or possibly tighter restrictions) are going to be in place until at least Easter.

                    ----------------------------

Future Parks Photo Competition

Entries to this competition are open until the end of the month - upload photos of parks and be in with a chance of winning a hanging basket from Blaise Nursery.

Bristol Parks Sports Facilities Transfer

The expression of interest (EOI) process for the Bristol Parks Sports Facilities Transfer will be open until Wednesday 24 February 2021.

The website is live now.

This is regarding the Sports Assets Community Transfer Proposal which was passed by the cabinet on Tuesday 6 October 2020 for facilities that the Council wants to retain for sports use.  The Council are seeking expressions of interest from non-sporting community groups who may bring ideas about a facility being operated for wider community benefit rather than solely as a sporting facility.

12 Communities 1 Bristol

There is a new local oral history podcast series, 12 Communities 1 Bristol, made by community radio station BCfm with over 40 volunteers, this 12-part series has so far reached 3700+ downloads.

Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Podbean and more - hope you like it!

Each episode focuses on 12 different areas which are often overlooked or stigmatised - there is no swearing or anything controversial!

 - - I’m biased, but I particularly like the St George one – it was great fun to be involved with.

National Impacts of Covid on Parks

'Effects of Covid 19 restrictions on Local Authority Parks and Green Spaces'.

A report by the Local Government Association has highlighted the problems which have occurred for the running and financing of Local Authorities during the crises.
The report and case studies make interesting and sobering reading.

This will be our last update for this year – best wishes for Christmas & New Year from all the Parks Forum Committee.
