The HSA would like to thank the Murch community for their generous donations to the first ever book drive! Because of your thoughtful donations, 20 kids from Murch will be able to pick out their very own brand new book! Thank you!!!

To the Murch Community--
As the coronavirus continues to surge in our community and across the nation and as fears about the trajectory of the virus mingle with hopes for a vaccine, we wanted to reach out to you to let you know that the HSA continues to work behind the scenes to support the Murch community and its students, staff, and teachers. We are always striving to do more and welcome suggestions for how we can better support our community.
To that end, we would like to highlight the importance of the work our teachers and staff are doing and the extreme circumstances in which they find themselves during this school year. Many of us are struggling with so many difficulties during this time, be it lost income, lost family members, strained relationships, or the unrelenting task of 24/7 parenting. Our teachers and staff are also meeting these challenges in their own lives, but set them aside every school day so that they can provide some semblance of normalcy and community to our children.
We encourage our community to reach out to your teachers and the Murch staff in the coming weeks to send them cards or notes of thanks and encouragement. We'd love for them to feel seen and appreciated by the families they teach and support. If you are comfortable sharing your praise, please send a copy of your card or note to MurchTeacherHonorRoll@gmail.com and we'll add it (without attribution to the writer) to the Murch website and social media pages.
The Murch front office is receiving mail and can help ensure that mailed cards get to teachers (4810 36th St NW, Washington, DC 20008).
We wish you all health and comfort as 2020 comes to a close, and thank you for all of your support of this community.
SOS December Challenge
Our theme for December is community and participation. We are nearly a third of the way to our goal of 50 contributions to the SOS fund in December. THANK YOU to the 14 families who have already contributed this month! Please help in supporting us!
The HSA is giving away two prizes in December.
The grade with the highest number of contributors by December 31 will win a Mad Science virtual workshop!
And all donors -- regardless of amount -- who make a giftby December 31 will have a chance to win a $50 gift card from Politics and Prose Bookstore.
We encourage as many families as possible to contribute - regardless of amount.
If you managed to find a live tree this season (Thanks, 2020!) and don't want to wait until February or later for the DC government to come and grab your dead tree, make plans to bring it to Murch on Saturday, January 9, between 10am and 2pm, to have it mulched by our friends at Branches Tree Experts.
In exchange for a recommended donation of $10-$15 to the HSA, we'll take your tree and save you from having the eyesore of a dying tree on your curb.
Have time and want to be outside for a bit? Volunteer to accept contributions during the mulching drive. Click HERE to sign up for a time that works for you.
Order a Murch T-Shirt or Mask by January 10
The HSA is taking orders for the following products: kids short sleeve t-shirts, adult short sleeve t-shirts, and kids masks.
All orders must be placed by Sunday, January 10.
- ALL kids t-shirts are $18 per t-shirt.
- ALL kids masks are $10 each.
- ALL adult t-shirts are $20.
ORDERING: Fill out the order form and select the items that you want. All orders must be placed by Sunday, January 10.
CONFIRMATION: Once you have completed the form, you will receive a confirmation email from the HSA within 24-48 hrs to verify your order.
DELIVERY & PAYMENT: Payment will be processed upon delivery. We will accept credit cards ONLY. Delivery date is TBD, but most likely the beginning of the year. An email will be sent to everyone who ordered a shirt with delivery options.

This year, we will be holding a book drive to help Murch families in need. Please consider a donation to our book drive by clicking on the "book drive" button, which will help our students build their home libraries. Ms. Miller will provide books to identified families.
