A Christmas message from Council Leader Caroline Kerr

Councillor Caroline Kerr shares a message with residents encouraging everyone to continue to look out for one another and keep safe this Christmas.

Residents must now stay at home except for specific purposes

Following a sharp increase in COVID-19 infections across the capital, Kingston and all other London boroughs have been moved into Tier 4 - Stay at home.

This is an extremely serious situation and we must now do even more to protect each other, and reduce pressure on our hospitals and NHS staff.

It is critical we all follow the new restrictions to Keep Kingston Safe:

  • Residents must stay at home as much as possible
  • All gyms and indoor leisure facilities are now closed
  • You can only leave for specific purposes: work (if you can't work from home), education, medical reasons (including to get a COVID-19 test), exercise, to buy groceries or other legally permitted reasons
  • No mixing of households indoors
  • You are only allowed to meet one other person from outside of your household in an outdoor public space
  • No overnight stays outside your household or support bubble
  • You must not leave your Tier 4 area, other than for legally permitted reasons
  • All non-essential shops and close contact businesses, including hairdressers and nail salons are now closed
  • These new restrictions mean that you can not meet anyone indoors over Christmas, you are only permitted to celebrate Christmas with your household or if you live alone you can meet with your existing support bubble.
We know this is disappointing after a tough year, but now it is clear that the best we can do for our families is to keep our celebrations small, local and safe.

The full list of restrictions is available on the GOV.UK website.

Please remember, if you experience any COVID-19 symptoms - a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste - you must stay at home and book a test as soon as possible, by visiting: nhs.uk/coronavirus or calling 119.

We know test slots are booking up quickly but please continue to stay at home and isolate until a slot becomes available or alternatively order a home test kit.

Stay connected during the festive season

Christmas is going to look a little different this year, but there's still fun to be had and joy to be shared in Kingston. From plays to online choir singing, we've put together an assortment of festive activities that residents can enjoy over the next two weeks, as well as options for support if needed during this time.

Check out the Connected Kingston Christmas page.

Thrive LDN also has a great range of free resources, online tools and helplines available to help you cope and stay well this winter.

1 in 3 people with COVID-19 have no symptoms.
Please follow these 3 simple rules to keep each other safe

Have a little extra food this Christmas?

Local charity Voices of Hope is asking local residents who have some food to spare this Christmas to help those that have less than they need. If you have any frozen food that you can donate, Voices of Hope is accepting donations up until Christmas Eve.

Email them to arrange a donation at kingstonaid@voh.org.uk.
