Strength in Diversity

Diversity is integral to our mission at Family Promise. It’s our goal to coordinate the compassion of our community to assist families experiencing homelessness obtain permanent housing.  Compassion and the desire to make a positive transformative change within our community is in all of us, regardless of our backgrounds. We’re so fortunate to be in a position to coordinate such diverse groups of volunteers, supporters, and community partners. We may all come from different backgrounds, faiths, and experiences, but the driving force that unites us, is our mission to prevent and end homelessness for families. The diversity that comprises Family Promise is something we cherish, and one of the driving forces of our success.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Christiansen

Delaware Housing Partnership

At the onset of the pandemic, the State began quickly placing families and individuals experiencing homelessness into local motel/hotel units. The State undertook this effort to ensure many individuals/families experiencing homelessness were sheltered, and to assist in minimizing the spread of COVID19 among the State’s most vulnerable populations. The State reached out and requested our help to assist families placed in these units, secure permanent housing.

Since May, Family Promise has provided families placed into motel units with case management and assistance to help them secure permanent housing. Family Promise is the primary partner, and provider of case management services and homelessness assistance resources for families in New Castle County, currently sheltering in motel/hotel units. Thanks to our joint efforts, the program has permanently housed 156 families to date!

The Season of Generosity

Each year, businesses, congregations, local clubs, and many other groups adopt the families experiencing homelessness in our care for the holiday season. Organizations such as Citi, JPMorgan & Chase, the City of Newark, Macy's, Congregation Beth Emeth, St. Mary the Assumption, and many more! Words can't express how much this means to us, and the families in our care. Experiencing homelessness is an extremely trying time for the families we serve. The holiday cheer provided by all of our wonderful supporters, goes a long way in brightening up the season for families experiencing homelessness. Thank you all for your support! Below are pictures from this year's gift deliveries/pickups. Also, check out the next section as we look back on the journeys of families served this year.
