This month's memory verse
John 3:16-17 ESV

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

A note from Jon.

Convenient Society, Covenant God

Have you ever taken a moment to reflect upon the changes that have made our lives more convenient? Modern technology has allowed us to cook faster, deposit and spend money faster, communicate instantly in many forms. We have come to expect instant solutions to every single challenge life throws our way. We desire and even demand a god who caters to our wants instantly. The God of heaven doesn’t operate on our time schedules. The children of Israel were told about the Promised Land that God would provide as they were freed from captivity in Egypt. Moses was called by the Lord to lead the children of Israel toward the Promised Land but he never stepped foot on that Promised Land. Does our faith allow us to wait on the Lord or must we take matters into our own hands? Covid-19 has put our patience to the test. It has also shown us that we can’t always get immediate answers to life’s problems.

2 Chronicles 7:14 outlines the covenant relationship the Lord laid out for Solomon and Israel.  “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” Solomon knew he was serving a powerful God. In this verse we see God’s willingness to offer forgiveness and healing as well as an answer to Israel’s prayers. Even though we are not in the same covenant relationship as Israel, we are reminded that we must trust God to provide for our forgiveness, our healing and our needs.

As a society that demands convenience, the church must not forget that we serve a covenant God. He won’t always provide a quick and easy solution to our problems, but He will answer our prayers in His timing. It is easy to be discouraged when we forget that as Christians we serve a mighty, awesome God. Trust God in everything because He is our lasting hope.
