Reflecting on Some of our 2020 Highlights in Clear Creek County...
What a year! 2020 started with a number of C4 Botz FTC Robotics Competitions, Tech Tuesday After School programming, in-person Extension Thursdays, and native plant education. While the rest of the year didn't go entirely as planned, our Native Plant Demo Garden didn't get that memo! Thanks to the efforts of honorary Master Gardeners, we had a fantastic show of colors in Georgetown through the summer months. Like the rest of the world, we went virtual for much of our programming, including our Trails & Ales Wildflower Hike and our Heritage Hops Beer & Food Pairing.  Over the summer, we were excited to distribute DIY Garden Kits to the community, and collaborate with KidzKorner to build a veggie garden. This Fall, we’ve continued working with KidzKorner to provide safe, in-person activities with 4-H Wild Wednesdays.  And I am proud to report that the C4 Robotics Club has expanded to be a for-credit elective class at Clear Creek High School!

This Holiday Season Spread Joy, Not Germs

During the holiday and cold/flu season, it’s important to think about the best ways to keep our families, friends and communities healthy.  It is now estimated that approximately 1 in every 90 Coloradans is actively infected with COVID-19.   Many people are asymptomatic, meaning they feel well and do not have any symptoms, but they have the virus and are contagious.  The elderly and those with underlying health conditions are most vulnerable, but everyone is at risk for contracting the very contagious coronavirus.

To help slow the ongoing spread of COVID-19, please–
  • Only interact in-person with people from your immediate household.
  • Refrain from traveling. Traveling increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19 because you are in contact with more people in more places.  Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others.
  • Celebrate virtually with the people who don’t live with you.  If you haven't joined in on a Zoom meeting or event yet, here are some tips:  https://www.aarp.org/.../info-2020/how-to-use-zoom.ht/
  • Skip the crowds and shop local and/or online and have purchases delivered or pick them up curbside– https://visitclearcreek.com/santa-stockings/
  • Take a break from cooking and order take-out from local restaurants.  You can also order gift cards for later use–  http://idahospringschamber.org/business.../takeout-takeover
  • When possible, get outside for more fresh air and exercise.
  • When in public, wear a mask, keep your distance and practice good hygiene.
Keeping physically apart doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected.  There are many creative ways to celebrate safely so we all stay healthy for many seasons to come.  Find more holiday tips at:  https://covid19.colorado.gov/winter-holiday-tips. and 'Tis the Season to Celebrate Safely from NPR
