James Kerr

Kerr over the years built an enviable reputation for gutsy abstracted work. To quote Ralph Steadman ‘The paint itself is also an object – it is subject to its own motivation, rules and dynamic which the artist must overcome, ignore or amplify‘. This in so many ways expresses so much the ‘why and what’ he paints.

An admirer of many the great 20th Century masters from Cezanne onwards, it is however from the British schools that include William Scott, Patrick Heron and Roger Hilton that have greatest influence on his work. He paints in oil on board, working from pencil sketches, and completes in his studio.

Julia Trotter

Julia enjoys creating colourful oils, interior and landscape scenes, drawing on her immediate surroundings for inspiration all painted with the vitality of someone who wants to “capture that moment” and to be able to share it with others.

Julia’s lifelong love of colour, design and texture, combines with a deep desire to put on to canvas in her words, “the atmosphere and beauty of interiors and gardens, leading to wonderful landscapes beyond”. Her works span from 4ft canvases to little gems of distant hills, where her passion can be seen. She feels very fortunate to have lived and travelled in so many inspiring places, notably France and Italy.

Julia Trotter, The Red Lamp, oil on canvas, 51 x 36cm, £1,550

Daisy Sims-Hilditch

“It is light that excites me and drives me to pick up my brushes and paint. My paintings are a celebration of light and I am fascinated by exploring tonal relationships in order to express the particular light effect before me. My classical training in Florence gave me the skills and desire to paint solely from nature and in natural light. I work on the spot, thriving off the changing weather as it forces one to be decisive. I enjoy capturing moods and atmosphere and to do this I insist on being outdoors in Nature”.

Daisy Sims-Hilditch, Peonies in a Pewter Tankard, oil on panel, signed,
