2020 Gratitude

As we look back on 2020 and the unique challenges we faced as individuals and a society, the North Olmsted Senior Center Staff invites you to join us in remembering some of the best moments of the year. Click here for each staff member’s best memory from 2020. It is important to reflect on the positive, especially in a difficult year for many of us. Take time out of your day to think back on the joyful moments of 2020!

COVID-19 Vaccine Update

In the last several weeks, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced details regarding the first phase of vaccine distribution beginning in mid-December. According to the Governor’s office, throughout the course of Phase 1, vaccine supply will be limited, vaccinating those who wish to be inoculated within the critical Phase 1A groups. The North Olmsted Senior Center is in communication with local pharmacies and hospitals regarding public distribution of the vaccine. We will be working hard to schedule a vaccine distribution at the Senior Center and provide any updated resources regarding distribution sites. For more information on the vaccine, please review the Ohio Department of Health bulletin regarding vaccine myths versus facts.

Finding Happiness

Resolve to be happy in 2021! The internet has a plethora of websites, videos and tips to demonstrate how to be happy. Western neuroscience has now confirmed what Eastern wisdom has suggested for a long time: happiness is a skill we can learn. Research shows that happiness, compassion and kindness are the product of skills that can be enhanced through training. Visit Action for Happiness for suggestions of actions you can take to increase your happiness. For example, making a list of three things you are grateful for every day for just one week increases happiness and decreases depression for up to 6 months later. If you want to delve deeper into increasing your happiness consider visiting the Happify website of downloading their app. Happify offers science based activities and games that improve mental health.
