Dear Parents & Guardians,

Ideally we would not be sending any school-related updates as everyone settles into a much deserved break. We sense, however, that for you own peace of mind, it is necessary to provide you with a picture of January 5th and the days that follow.

Yesterday the Ontario government issued a news release outlining a province-wide lockdown that will take effect on December 26, 2020, and will impact all Ontario schools for a period following the December Break.

It is important to highlight that out of yesterday's announcement, our school emerged with an opportunity to maintain a positive outlook on our extremely fortunate position. All schools in the North Bay Parry Sound District health unit region are able to resume in-person instruction on January 11, 2021.

We are very thankful as we are the only CIS school facing a one week only campus closure. This means that beginning Tuesday, January 5th, we will return to our Global Campus, facilitating learning virtually throughout the week. On Monday, January 11th, ALL day and boarding students will return to classes on our Rosseau Campus.

That being said, International Boarding students will return Sunday, January 3rd according to the pre-Christmas return to school plan and will learn virtually from their rooms throughout the week. Domestic boarders will return Sunday, January 10th. Details for Domestic boarders return will be communicated in January.

While RLC is fortunate to be located in a remote area, we still need to do our part by taking proactive and preventative action to protect our community and the greater local community following the holiday break to ensure we can continue in-class learning. Please take a moment to read through these enhanced precautionary measures that we will be implementing when we return to school in January.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Bissonette & Senior Management Team

Rosseau Lake College’s Global Campus maintains our unwavering commitment to supporting the learning, overall growth and particular needs of each student in this personalized learning community. As we move into a week of “virtual” learning from our Global Campus, RLC faculty will continue working hard to implement an overall approach to teaching and learning that anticipates the vast set of needs of each of our students, no matter their individual situation. Our Global Campus ensures daily synchronous participation in January Term courses, and consistent access to our community. Indeed, we are uniquely positioned to continue offering rich programming that is enhanced and celebrated through our tight-knit community; a community that has repeatedly demonstrated its strength and resilience no matter the circumstances it is facing.

It should also be noted that consistent and clear communication between our teachers, leadership team and families are the true foundation of our Global Campus. We need to ensure that our students feel engaged and supported no matter what their particular situation is. On that note, please know that we understand the Global Campus  framework will, for a wide range of reasons, not work for every student, everyday. Again, our clear and consistent lines of communication will ensure all students are receiving the help and understanding they require, no matter what their specific situation may be.

Thank you everyone. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally with any questions or concerns you may have in response to this overview, or anything else that arises. In the meantime, we look forward to seeing all students in our Zoom Assembly at 8:45am on Tuesday, January 5th.
