Happy New Year! Let 2021 begin!

For all the challenges 2020 has presented, it has also encouraged us to examine different ways of how we can safely deliver programs to our members. I am delighted to announce that the Coronation Centre has been awarded a Seniors Community Grant from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility. This will allow us to offer virtual classes to our members for free!

Who doesn't love free? And who doesn't love being taught by your favourite instructor, safely in your own home?

For those of you who prefer to join via telephone, you can join us for Trivia and Bingo. Please let other members you may know who don't have a computer or device know about these programs.

The Ministry's grant will allow us to bring programs straight to you via Zoom beginning Tuesday, January 5 and will run until the end of March 2021. All of the classes will be live. It's up to you if you keep your camera on or not. Please also mute yourself upon arrival (hellos are welcomed though) This is our first time delivering these types of programs and I am sure we will have some growth pains, so please bear with us!

MONDAY

Meditation with Carey Monday 8:30 a.m. Breathe and relax. Join Here.

Meditation is a simple practice available to all, which can reduce stress, increase calmness and clarity and promote happiness. Learning how to meditate is straightforward, and the benefits can come quickly. Here, we offer basic tips to get you started on a path toward greater equanimity, acceptance and joy. You may have heard of Zumba Gold, or even taken Zumba Gold classes at the Coronation Centre. Zumba is a world-wide, dance fitness phenomenon and is perfect for anyone who wants to burn calories, strengthen their muscles and boost your mind, all while enjoying a bit of a boogie.

Sculpt and Tone exercises focus on adding definition to your physique with higher reps and lower weight. These sculpt and Tone workouts help improve your circulation, metabolism and caloric burn, further enhancing the shape and definition of your muscles.

Sit and Be Fit
Using a chair either to sit or for support, the class works with resistance bands or light weights. Low impact on your joints, this class is perfect to build strength and stay active. Suited for those with cardiac conditions, respiratory and physical limitations.

Gentle Yoga is for those who want a softer, nurturing, slow paced, well supported and relaxing practice. It's great for beginners. In gentle yoga, you move your body in a gentle, comfortable way; it encourages movement without the potential for strain. Poses are generally held for over 5 minutes each, and you utilize pillows and cushions for comfort.

Chair Yoga is a specific form of yoga as therapy developed by Lakshmi Voelker-Binder in 1982, practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. The chair’s there to help if you want to hold onto something for balance, or if you’d rather do the whole class sitting down.
The poses are often adaptations of asanas in modern yoga as exercise.

January's Selection: (book cover) The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin: If you knew the date of your death, how would you live your life?  2 p.m. Wednesday January 20th. Book Club with Carrie. Call the library to have your copy set aside now and join the discussion later this month! Book Now.
Customer Service Librarian, Carrie Bosco from the Niagara Falls Public Library facilitates our meetings on the third Wednesday of the month. Book Club is an excellent way for us to build social connection through our shared love of reading.

The next Book Club will be held January 20, 2021 @ 2 p.m.  The Book is called 'The Immortalists' by Chloe Benjamin. Book club members can call the library and have their book set aside. There are two ways to pick your book up at Victoria Avenue Library.
