From Jen's Desk:

Monday, December 21st was the winter solstice and I took a quiet walk in snow- covered woods to contemplate. The winter solstice is hope to me - with the daylight lengthening and the coming of spring. I know it may seem a little premature for those of us in the North thinking about the cold and snow to come, but with each passing day, we are one step, or minute of sunlight, closer to warmth, reawakening, renewal and growth. So I wait patiently and take advantage of this time to snuggle in and rest and recharge when I can. I wish the same for you. Remember, you can always reach out to the U.S. GLOBE Office at any time; we love to hear from you. Happy Holidays and Best Wishes as we look to 2021! Jen

Upcoming Watercoolers and Date Change for 2021

The votes are in! Starting January 2021 the U.S. GLOBE Weekly Watercoolers will take place on Mondays at 4:10p ET. On weeks with a Monday holiday, they will move to Thursday at 4:10p ET. We hope to accommodate more schedules with this date change, and will re-evaluate after the first quarter.

Please join us for the first Watercooler of the new year on January 4th at 4:10p ET. At this Watercooler we will be crowdsourcing ideas for workshop submissions to the Citizen Science Association Conference (CitSci Virtual). Anyone that is interested in working together to submit GLOBE-related proposals, or that has topic ideas, is invited to discuss, collaborate, and get a start on writing the submissions. Register to join here.

All GLOBE Teachers and Partners - Please consider sharing what you are doing or new resources you have been using to make GLOBE work in your classroom/organization! SIGN UP HERE to present at a 2021 Watercooler.

*** Upcoming Watercooler dates and topics can now be viewed from the GLOBE website

Unlearning Racism in Geoscience

Have you heard about this FREE opportunity to participate and learn? Our colleagues at the University of New Hampshire are jumping at the chance! It consists of a series of 2-week curriculum units. There are readings and you attend or view interviews with the authors. In each two week session, you meet with your pod to discuss the material and there are deliverables. The sessions take place over the spring from January-May.

The U.S. GLOBE Office is happy to gather and submit a list of participants within the U.S. Partners and coordinate the meet-ups if the GLOBE Partnership Network wanted to form a pod. Let us know if you are interested and we will assess the numbers. It could be one way for U.S. GLOBE to work on diversity, equity, inclusion and justice together. Or, if your organization has been searching for professional learning around this topic, forming a pod locally might make more sense.
