Our goals are to create a learning community where people who identify as white can:
-
Be constructively challenged to recognize and question assumptions,
-
Increase their ability to engage in meaningful conversations about race and racism with other white people, with Black people and with other people of color,
-
Commit to anti-racist practices in one of their spheres of influence.
Content: We take advantage of the wealth of multi-media resources available to further our education and as prompts for self-reflection and challenging conversation.
Topics include: history of race and racism, white privilege, intersectionality, allyship, and systemic racism.
Participants: We are expressly inviting people who identify as white as we have particular work to do. This is not a substitute for participation in mixed race conversations and programs; rather, it is meant to complement that crucial work.
Commitment: Participants are asked to commit to:
- 6 (90-minute) sessions, meeting every other week
- 1-2 hours of pre-work for each session
- 6 (1-hour) peer consultations with a learning partner in between Study Group sessions
Application: Please complete an application to let us know about your learning needs and interests. In addition, applicants are asked to identify a domain of work for implementing anti-racist practices.
