Carmel continues its commitment to public art with latest installation, 'Morning Sun'
A new roundabout sculpture was installed Tuesday morning at the intersection of Range Line Road and Executive Drive. 'Morning Sun' was designed by California-based artist Brad Howe and installed by the Carmel Street Department. The sculpture is situated near the Proscenium redevelopment project and the Kroger store.

The 16-foot-tall sculpture, made out of stainless steel and urethane, is Howe’s third roundabout sculpture in Carmel. His previous sculptures include 'Cyclo' at Range Line Road and Smoky Row and 'Reckon' at Range Line Road and Elm Street.

Public art enhances spaces with character and helps to create an identity that makes it appealing to residents and helps attract visitors. Public art also plays an integral role in establishing the aesthetic of a community. Carmel's Public Art Advisory Committee played a part in selecting the location for this piece. Carmel receives grant for installation of electric vehicle charging stations

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM), as part of its VW Trust Fund Settlement, has awarded $18,000 to the City of Carmel to install two electric vehicle chargers. Carmel was one of 31 cities, within Indiana, to be awarded funding from the $615,000 allocated to install Level 2 chargers across the state. Level 2 chargers can put 20 to 30 miles of electricity in an electric vehicle per hour.

The City was awarded this competitive grant by partnering with the Carmel Redevelopment Commission, local developers Monon and Main, LLC and Novo Development Group to find locations to install the chargers and share expenses not covered by the grant. The projects will bring much-needed electric vehicle infrastructure into the community.

Plowing snow on Carmel trails
The City of Carmel is committed to making bicycle riding, running and walking year-round activities on the City’s trails, and multi-use paths for both transportation and recreation. During the winter months, after a heavy snowfall of three inches or more, the City puts in motion a plan to plow local streets immediately for the safety of motorists, then turns its attention to plowing local trails like the Monon Greenway and Hagan Burke Trail along with many miles of multi-use paths along our roadways.

Thanks to the community for donating phones to the Voice to Victims phone drive

The Voice to Victims used mobile phone collection drive concluded on January 10 with 411 phones donated. When organizer Katie Dunn began the campaign in November her goal was to collect 50 phones to be given to victims of domestic violence. Due to the generosity of our community that goal was exceeded! Since the campaign was organized by Dunn as part of her journey to become a Gold Award Girl Scout, she gave Voice to Victims logo patches to registered scouts (Girl Scouts of the USA and Boy Scouts of America) that donated a phone to show their participation in helping to save lives.

Carmel Cares is a community partnership with Carmel Clay Schools, Carmel Clay Parks Department, Carmel Clay Public Library, Good Day Carmel, the Carmel Police and Fire Departments, Center for the Performing Arts, and others.
