Report on the Week of Prayer.

A word from Pastor Derrick

It’s been an excellent first week of our 21 days of prayer and fasting. I hope you heard my message on Sunday talking about obstacles to prayer. Jesus cleared the temple to rid it of impediments for Gentile prayers. He lauded Mary for sitting at his feet and chided Martha for being too busy and not properly focused. Jesus wants us to pray. Don’t let anything stop you.

This week about 20-25% of our church has participated in the first week of prayer, that’s about 600 people. Each night more people attended the online prayer services at 7 PM than would have attended in person or live (based on statistics from the last few years of Week of Prayer). That’s encouraging. In addition, there have been Zoom prayer times at 7 AM and 7:30 PM each day. Many are fasting something and have made it through the first week (including me), yahoo and way to go! I want to thank the prayer coordinators (mostly lay leaders) backed up by pastors and staff who have facilitated this week. It’s a wonderful testimony to the prayer movement at CLA. For me I’ve enjoyed joining others most mornings for prayer. I’ve also enjoyed special prayer times this week with our pastors, staff and my family.

It's not too late to join in. Come join us. Start today by taking notes of my message. I’m unveiling the five prayer priorities for 2021. Sunday afternoon there is a national prayer meeting of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada (the network of churches CLA belongs to). You can join this at 3:35 PM for online worship and at 4 PM for prayer. The livestream link is https://paoc.org/events/national-prayer-gathering-2021-public. Then every day this week we will have Zoom prayer times at 7 AM and 7 PM. You can join by simply signing up here to get the Zoom details. Also, there will be daily prayer devotionals on all CLA’s social media platforms based on the topics from Pete Grieg’s book “How to Pray – A Simple Guide for Normal People”. If you don’t have that book, I’d be happy to send it to you. Hope you can join us for the next 3 Sundays online for sermons on prayer. We are right in the middle of our 5 week series. These messages are biblical, practical and inspirational. If you’ve missed any you can pick them up by going to the sermon page at clachurch.com

Last week’s Word from the Pastor mentioned 10 things that were important and significant for our church in 2020. Spiritual life and ministry achievements don’t “just happen”. They occur because of prayer. First we pray and then we gather up the ministry and outreach results. Thank you for the core of our church who are disciplined to keep the fires of prayer red hot and thereby bring God’s anointing and blessing upon all activities. This core is the backbone of our church and we are all the beneficiaries of it. Keep up the hard work!

Pastor Derrick Hamre
