CACG wishes you a wonderful start to 2021. January includes college counseling action steps for students in grades nine through twelve.

Seniors

With most college applications submitted, it is time to fully reengage with high school. Remember, colleges will review senior year grades. Check those application portals, submit financial aid forms, apply for scholarships, and thank the people who have helped you get this far. Juniors

You are halfway through your junior year. Make sure you are working hard in all of your classes and seeing your teachers if you need help. This is a time of exploration. Continue learning about colleges (virtual info sessions, college search websites, and books) and developing your exploratory list of schools. Review your standardized testing plans and register for the tests. Remember, many schools are test-optional. Begin planning a meaningful summer. CACG is here to help!

Sophomores

Have you seen a copy of your high school transcript? Now is a great time to request a copy for review. Outside of the classroom, how are you developing your involvement in extracurricular activities? Be sure to create or update your resume. Sophomore year is the time to determine your preferred standardized test, the ACT or SAT. A diagnostic test may be helpful. Using college search websites and books and attending virtual college information sessions will help you learn about colleges and begin growing your exploratory list of schools. Plan a meaningful summer for 2021.

Freshmen

You are on your way and the meter is running. This year you are laying the foundation for your high school career. Work hard, get involved, and ask for help when you need it. Remember, what you do in high school counts and becomes part of your story. Work on writing a story you will be proud to tell when you are applying to college. Look for ways to get involved and explore your interests ~ sports, arts, community service, clubs, and organizations. Explore opportunities and plan a meaningful summer for 2021.
