Dear Friends,

For Lent this year, I will be running an online zoom course looking at The Beatitudes or Jesus “beautiful attitudes” - which are found at the start of the sermon on the mount in Matthew’s gospel (Matthew 5:3-12).

I will be running the course at two different times each week - on Thursday evenings at 8pm, and on Friday mornings at 10.30am. There are six sessions and each session will take about an hour or so.

We will start as Lent begins - on Thursday 18th February at 8pm or Friday 19th February at 10.30am, and continue weekly up to Easter.

Zoom details will be issued nearer the time. Do think about joining us, this course is open to anyone.

Many blessings,
Rev Trevor Wyatt

Some of you guessed correctly!

It’s the shape of our parish and over the next few weeks there will be articles made up of photographs from Roy and musings from Marilyn.

Holding on to God in hard times – Yvonne Fowler

"Rather, cling tightly to the Lord your God as you have done until now.” (Joshua 23:8) Will these hard times we are going through ever ends?

If you’ve asked yourself this question lately, you’re not alone.

For many of us life hasn’t been easy in recent weeks, months, or even years.
We know God’s word makes it clear that “in this world we will have trouble” (John 16:33) But when difficult circumstances happen one after another, we can get overwhelmed by the extended season of hard times. So, what do we do when hard times hit one after the other with no end in sight?

In his final words to the leaders of Israel Joshua gave his command to God’s chosen people. His words still speak truth to us as believers today. “Rather, cling tightly to the Lord your God as you have done until now.” (Joshua 23:8)

The Israelites were enjoying a time of rest in the land God had given them. Joshua encouraged them to cling to God in the season of rest or in the heat of battle.

During this period when everything seems so uncertain and all we hear are discouraging and we feel we are in the midst of hard times and possibly doubt how things could possible work out.
This verse “Rather, cling tightly to the Lord your God as you have done until now.” (Joshua 23:8) offers the answer we need.

We need to hold on to God just as we’ve done in the past, and trust that He will be with us through it all. He is faithful. Let’s cling tightly to God right now! There is hope and healing when we choose to cling tightly to God

Who was he?
by Marilyn Ormes

He was born on 13 January 1890 in Hartlepool.  His parents were William and Mary and as the eldest son he was named William after his father.  A clever boy, he was educated at Darlington Grammar School and went on to Durham University.

He served with the Durham Light Infantry in World War I and then worked in Middlesborough,  Dudley and Hartlepool.   In 1918 he married Avis Robina Machin.  Who was he and what is his connection with Christ Church?

Answer next week!
