Preparing Students for Success

As we prepare to bring students back to campus, it is important that we set them up for success.  Students will be required to wear a mask throughout the day, practice social distancing and frequent hand hygiene. Please continue to discuss these aspects of the day with students to prepare them for what their day will look like.

We encourage families to use the time prior to our return to practice wearing a mask for long periods of time in order to simulate the school day.  It is also important to find masks that fit and are comfortable for your children to wear and participate in as they will be expected to do at school. Please note that the mask must cover students’ mouths from their nose to chin. Masks are now part of the APS dress code and must be worn to maintain participation with face-to-face instruction.

It is also important to prepare students for their school day by asking them to work at a table or desk for their classes as this will best simulate what their school day will look like.

Daily Materials
  • Mask that fits and covers the nose and mouth
  • Fully charged device and charger (Chromebook / iPad)
  • Headset (or earbuds or any compatible device)
  • Any personal school supplies needed
  • Water bottle/thermos
  • Lunch *there are no microwaves available; meals should be ready to eat
Arrival/Dismissal
We anticipate arrival and dismissal taking longer than normal as we transition back to in-person learning. All students will submit to a verbal health screening each day, and temperature checks are required. We appreciate your patience as we adhere to safety precautions.
We encourage parents to prescreen students prior to the start of the school day and keep home students who are experiencing symptoms or are running a fever.  The following questions will be asked during the screening process:
  • Have you had any signs or symptoms of a fever in the past 24 hours such as chills, sweats, felt "feverish" or had a temperature that is elevated for you/100.4F or greater?
  • Do you have any of the following symptoms: Cough, Shortness of Breath or Chest Tightness, Sore Throat, Nasal Congestion/Runny Nose, Myalgia (Body Aches), Loss of Taste and/or Smell, Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Fever/Chills, Sweats?
  • Have you had any close contact in the last 14 days with someone with a diagnosis of COVID-19?
  • Have you taken a COVID-19 test and are awaiting results based on potential exposure to a known case or other high risk exposure?
  • Have you taken a COVID-19 test and are awaiting results based on mild symptoms or overall feeling unwell?
Please be sure that students are able to answer these questions if they are bus riders or participate in carpool.
Additionally, student temperature will be taken. If a student has an elevated temperature, he/she will be sent home.

Kiddos – After-School Care

There will be no on-site, after-school program during third nine weeks. Kiddos will provide for limited participation at a nearby, off-site location with transportation provided. Priority spaces will be allowed for students who currently attend Kiddos. More information can be found at kiddosatlanta.com.

Don't Forget to Update Immunization Records

Please remember that immunizations must be updated prior to returning to school.

Upload Records Here: Main Office Information Center

Students can receive immunizations via a private physician, a County Board of Health Office, or one of the school-based health clinics. Due to COVID restrictions and parameters, parents are encouraged to call and schedule an appointment prior to arriving on site.

We have also partnered with the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile to continue to provide immunizations via the mobile van to students ages 4 and up who are Medicaid eligible. Attached is a flyer for where the mobile van will be for the month of January. (Spanish

No appointment is necessary, and students will be immunized on a first come, first served basis. As CHOA finalizes a January and February calendar, we’ll be sure to share those dates and locations once we receive this information. See HERE for the information regarding APS immunization requirements.  These immunizations must be up to date for your child to return to school in person.

IB Learner Profile for January

Our IB Learner Profile Attribute for the month of January is Risk Taker.

What does it mean to be a risk taker in learning?

Risk Takers - They approach unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and forethought and have the independence of spirit to explore new roles, ideas, and strategies. They are brave and articulate in defending their beliefs.

IB students perform well in challenging academic settings and show resilience and determination in their work. In academics, they have the confidence to approach new or unfamiliar subjects or material.

Risk Taker in the classroom - No one learns without making mistakes. Quite the opposite—we learn when we make mistakes.

Statement: “I try new things”

The development of our attributes is the foundation of developing internationally minded students who can help to build a better world.
