Today is the 26 anniversary of the day of service that celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s life and legacy. This day is observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off” and is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. I believe that today should be a call to activism! We must continue to fight for the same issues that Dr. King sought to change. Therefore, I proclaim January 18 as Martin Luther King Day. Let us take this opportunity to remember and reaffirm the values he spoke of and may they strengthen the moral framework in our personal lives and in our nation.
