Newsflash 2
“O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with Him there is plentiful redemption.”
(Psalm 130:7)
Herewith the promised update on an evolving situation. As indicated in the previous newsflash, half of Khothatsong's home-based care staff are currently ill, at least two with confirmed covid-19.
Today (14 January) we decided to temporarily close our office, after all of our remaining staff had a high-risk exposure to the coronavirus. While we don't know whether or not they were infected, we don't want to take chances.
During the past week our staff have been busy visiting all of the patients to identify who requires urgent assistance. They identified 10 such patients and were able to visit them on Wednesday. The closing of the office is very unfortunate for those patients. However, should those patients be exposed to the coronavirus they have an extremely high risk of serious/fatal illness.
We also discovered that one of our patients' social grant had been stopped for no apparent reason. When our staff visited her, she hadn't been able to feed her family properly for some time. Our last action before closing the office was therefore to drop off a food parcel to this home. When the office reopens, the Lord willing, on Monday 25 January, we will properly resume our food parcel project.
