Join Liberty’s MLK Day Celebration Online

Each year, the Liberty community hosts a celebration and program on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  The program will be this Monday, January 18, at 10:00 a.m.  All are welcome to join the online celebration via Zoom at https://zoom.us/j/98462825199?pwd=ZjZnc1YwTHpMSC9TaDNMVnNuZzZwZz09.  As vice-president of the Liberty-Area Ministerial Alliance, Pastor Mike will be offering the invocation.

Drive Thru Communion Times

We will have drive-thru Communion this Sunday, January 17, 10:30-11:15 as usual.  However, there will be no drive-thru Communion on January 24 while Pastor Mike is on vacation.  We’ll have it again on January 31, but the times will be adjusted to 10:00-10:40 because of the annual meeting.

January Bless Boxes are Available

Hosanna! kids get a new box each month with activities and resources to dive deeply into a faith concept.  This month’s box focuses on being a disciple of Jesus, includes materials create an ICTHUS fish (a secret code used by early disciples), and other activities.  Pick up your kids’ Bless Boxes January 16-31.  They are available for pickup 24/7 in a Rubbermaid tub by the front doors.  We have extra unmarked boxes available for adults to share with grandkids or to do the projects yourself.

Death of Fred Kinney

We are sad to share that Hosanna! member Fred Kinney died January 6 as a result of declining health.  We extend our sympathy to Joyce and the rest of Fred's family.  The family held a private family service at the funeral home last weekend, and plans a larger public gathering later this spring or summer.  Read Fred’s obituary and leave a message for his family at www.hosannatogether.org/fred.  You are also welcome to mail any notes to Joyce Kinney at 504 Briar Ln, Kearney, MO  64060.

Budget Caucus Meeting

A budget caucus will be held on Saturday, January 30 at 11:00am via Zoom.   The budget be discussed at the annual meeting, but this opportunity provides more time for in-depth study and explanation that will allow Sunday's meeting to proceed more quickly.  The meeting link and call-in information will be posted closer to the meeting date at www.hosannatogether.org/meeting

Annual Congregational Meeting will be Online January 31

Hosanna! Lutheran Church’s annual meeting will be held January 31 at 11:00am via Zoom Video Conferencing.  Because of the pandemic, our council has chosen to hold this meeting online to allow the greatest number of members to participate.  Attendees will be able to ask questions, discuss, and vote as they would during an in-person meeting.

We are committed to helping members who might struggle with this format to participate by offering 1-on-1 technical assistance, connection to the meeting by regular phone call, and/or other arrangements as applicable in each situation.  Please contact the church office at 816-781-7991 or
cathy@hosannalutheranchurch.org if you would like assistance with any of these options.  We will also hold a trial meeting January 30 at 10:00 for those new to Zoom to make sure they are able to get connected and learn how Zoom works.

The digital copy of the annual report and budget proposal will be distributed to the Happenings e-mail list and on our website on January 26.  A printed copy can be provided to you by request to the church office.

Visit
www.hosannatogether.org/meeting for more information about the logistics, help using Zoom, and to find the annual report and meeting link once they are posted.

Pastor Mike on Vacation Next Week

Pastor Mike will be on vacation January 19-25.  If you have pastoral care needs during this time, please call the church office at 816-781-7991 and leave a message.  We’ll get back to you shortly.  Pastor Bethany Rutten-Kempees (daughter of John and Barb Chapman) will lead worship on Sunday, January 24.

Prayer Weavers Sew So Much!

Blood Drive Makes a Difference

We hosted 16 people to donate blood on January 7, with 3 of those being new donors.  14 units of blood were collected, with each unit able to help up to 3 people in the Kansas City area.  Thank you to everyone who donated and supported us.  We look forward to the opportunity to host another blood drive in the future.

Illustrated Faith Formation

Illustrated Ministry has put together scripture, discussion questions, an activity, and a coloring sheet to go deeper each week this Christmas an Epiphany.  Much of the resource is fitting for both kids and adults who find coloring to be enjoyable and meditative.  Download a free copy of this resource each week at www.hosannatogether.org/coloring.  A coloring page to list hopes, dreams, goals, and intentions is also available.

Dialogues on Race Follow-up Conversation

When we wrapped up the Dialogues on Race in September, participants expressed an interest in following up after a few months.  Participants in that study are invited to join us for conversation on Wednesday, January 27 at 7:00pm via Zoom (both sessions will meet together).  The link will be e-mailed to study participants and posted at www.hosannatogether.org/race.  There’s no homework, and no need to RSVP.
