The inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States will take place on January 20th, 2021 We are so excited to celebrate Joe Biden as president and Kamala Harris as vice president. The inaugural theme is "America United" to bring us all together as Americans.
At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the evening before Mr. Biden takes the oath, the committee will hold a lighting ceremony around the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in remembrance of people in the United States who have lost their lives in the coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, January 20th, Biden will be sworn in by Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. on the Capiton's West Front sometime before noon. Our new president is then expected to give his inaugural address and conduct a review of military troops, as is tradition. People are urged not to attend the event during the pandemic, but virtual events are intended to keep up the spirit of celebration and actually allow more people to celebrate from home.
Instead of the traditional parade along Pennsylvania Avenue as the new president, vice president and their families make their way to the White House over a mile away, there will be an official escort with representatives from every branch of the military for one city block.
President Trump announced Friday that he would not attend the inauguration. Mr. Biden called that decision “one of the few things he and I have ever agreed on.”
Following the daytime inaugural festivities, there will be a Primetime Special to Spotlight American Heroes and Air Live on ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, and MSNBC from 8:30-10:00 p.m. ET on January 20. Yes, Tom Hanks will be there.
