As a member of the Comsense community, we are reaching out to you proactively to warn you about a potentially malicious email that has been seen circulating late this afternoon.
We've been notified that some customers received an odd email that appeared to be from Jim Butler, a Comsense team member for over 20 years. This email is spoofed, meaning it has been crafted by malware to appear to be sent from Jim Butler to fool recipients, but in fact, was sent from an unknown infected machine outside of Comsense control and outside of our email provider Microsoft, somewhere on the Internet.
Please be on the lookout for an email that appears to be from Jim Butler with the subject line FW: Comsense Inc. The message contents include mention of an attachment of a proposal for your perusal with a hyperlink that likely leads to something unpleasant. Please delete this message immediately if you see it.
As your IT staff and partners have likely encouraged already, please be vigilant when viewing emails from outside parties, particularly those that are unexpected, include spelling mistakes, and odd-looking attachments or hyperlinks. Send suspicious emails to your Junk folder where they can be safely examined in most modern email clients without the risk of opening an attachment or activating a hyperlink accidentally.
