Protea is an innovative line from Anthonij Rupert Wynes. Named after South Africa's national flower, these wines truly embrace the spirit of this exciting wine region.
The Protea flower (PROH-tee-uh) draws its name from the shape-shifting Greek God Proteus, since it comes in such a dizzying array of colours and forms. Each blossom is somehow a little more exotic and special than the last.
The patterns on each bottle of Protea Wine were created by South African designer Mark Eisen. Paisley and Cape Dutch themes speak to Protea’s South African roots, but also transform the bottles from mere containers to objects of beauty and contemplation. A bottle of Protea won't just sit on your table, but enliven it — and probably spark more than a little conversation.
As special as they are, Protea bottles are also perfect for 'upcycling'. Once you've enjoyed your bottle of Protea wine, it can take on a new life as a vase, a carafe, or even be repurposed as a candle holder.

Quaffable, refreshing, and one to whet the appetite. Enjoy a glass before a meal to set the mood and stimulate the senses. Nectarine, citrus and tropical flavours frame a bright, balanced acidity.

Protea Rosé 2020
Not just for summer, rosé can (and should) be enjoyed all year round. Based on a blend of grapes typical to the rosé wines of Southern France, this bright and fresh wine will lighten the mood on the darkest of winter days.
Perfect with a charcuterie board, or paired with Caesar salad, or sushi.

Protea Merlot 2019
Vibrant black cherry and plum aromas with a hint of tomato plant and dark chocolate. This wine has instant appeal with soft, succulent dark fruit with a light tobacco leaf edge. Ample plum and cherry with spice highlights and deeper earth and cocoa notes below. Softly textured but with a supportive structure and frame. Lovely, generous ripe-fruited finish.
Pairs well with lamb burgers, pork loin, or a steak with mushroom sauce.
