COVID-19 Update

Great new, some of our members have now received their first vaccine. We also have members who have started working as vaccinators, there are roles available for paid & voluntary young people, so if you have a first-aid certificate this may be of interest.

Sadly the club will be closed until further notice, but we will continue to monitor government and RYA announcements and provide further updates when the news changes.

The club can be accessed by appointment for essential maintenance.
To book an appointment please contact manager@dwsc.co.uk

Thank you for your support and patience as always.

Sail from Home
There are some great resources online to help you keep sailing from home during lock down. We are going to share some of the great videos throughout our closure to help keep you up to date, motivated and prepare to get back on the water when we can.
Foiling dinghies have taken off over the last few years, if you've seen them whizzing around the reservoir & wondered how it all works this is a great video to watch and might just inspire you to have a go!
A fab short video from Jack Fenwick, National Judge & Umpire, about how to avoid rule 42 penalties with some really clear visual explanations.
The Model Yacht Association have a great YouTube channel with highlights of their racing and an introduction to the sport.
The club YouTube channel has some of our zoom evenings available to rewatch as well as highlights of the Datchet Flyer.
Are there sailing topics you want to hear about?

Chris Simon, RYA regional rules advisors has kindly suggested the following talks:
  • Racing Rules for Rivers: not just rivers but any enclosed waters (like reservoirs) as it deals in detail with continuing obstructions, hailing for room, etc.
  • Rules at Marks: A very detailed look at the mark rounding rules.
  • Rules around the Race Track: A detailed look at the rules applicable, in the order met when in a race (quite a long talk – probably 1 ½ to 2 hours).
  • What rules do you need to know: a talk specifically for safety and mark laying boats who may be asked by the Race Officer to deal with other things on the water –  useful for race officers too.
  • RRS for Race Management:  this has been given this twice before at DWSC. There are a few rules changes which could be covered following the introduction of new rules.

Club Development Plan 2021 - 2023

Council met last night and reviewed some very interesting ideas.
There is a lot of work to be done and we are very grateful to the input already received from Fleets and Safety Coxswains.

Aim
To set the business strategy and business plan post-Covid, getting input from all of the club communities.

Recognise
There is one club but the needs of the various communities are very different.
We need to recognise the needs wants and desires of the groups and set our course accordingly.
Members satisfaction is gained from “Doing best what matters most”
There is little to be gained from performing well at what is not important to our members.

Input/ Feedback
Your input is important and we hope that you will take an active role in the sessions we are organising.
