COVID-19 Updates:

COVID-19 Vaccinations: Eye on Equity and Incomplete Data

COVID-19 vaccination efforts are moving quickly, but the data about who is getting vaccinated is lagging. According to UR CTSI Co-Director Nancy Bennett, M.D., who is co-chair of Monroe County's vaccine task force, the data is crucial to know whether the vaccine is being distributed fairly among different communities and groups. Improving Clinical Research by Empowering Participants

Participant feedback can help organizations improve their clinical trials, but many organizations lack the infrastructure to collect this feedback. The UR CTSI is part of a collaborative project, funded by the National Center for Advancing Translational Science, to build an infrastructure to routinely collect and analyze research participant feedback. Learn more about the project on the UR CTSI blog.

UR CTSI Provides Regulatory Support

The Office of Regulatory Support, housed within the UR CTSI, offers services to support investigators with the navigation of and compliance with a range of governing requirements. In addition to general assistance with requirements as they arise, expertise is provided to support specific FDA-regulated processes, including research involving experimental drugs and devices, as well as pre-clinical laboratory studies. The office also provides investigators with help managing studies in clinicaltrials.gov. Submit a request online to connect with the office.

Webinar: Stakeholder Roles and Responsibilities

Presented by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard University, the Stakeholder Roles and Responsibilities webinar will discuss cross-cutting responsibilities for stakeholders to achieve increased diversity in clinical research, examples of organization-wide initiatives to promote diversity, and measuring progress toward diversity goals.
Date: January 27
Time: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Apply for UNYTE Pipeline-to-Pilot Award

The UR CTSI announces a UNYTE Pipeline-to-Pilot grant opportunity of up to two awards of $10,000. The main goal of this program is to stimulate early phase research partnerships between University of Rochester faculty and UNYTE member institution faculty, facilitating their ability to compete as a collaborative team for future funding for translational biomedical research. Apply by Monday, February 1, 2021.

Apply for Digital Health Seedling Award

The UR CTSI’s new Digital Health Seedling Award provides up to $25,000 to support research that advances the development, approval or use of innovative digital health tools. JCTS Call for Papers on Educational Innovation

The Journal of Clinical and Translational Science (JCTS) is issuing a call for papers focusing on educational innovations for teaching clinical and translational science. The intent is to enable the reader, including educators, faculty, aligned healthcare professionals and trainees in the clinical and translational research community, to gain knowledge in the skills and tools required to be an effective educator of clinical and translational science that impacts a range of both lay and scientifically grounded audiences and learners. Summaries are due Monday, February 1.

Diversity in Clinical Trials Career Development Program

The Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation and National Medical Fellowships invite applications for the Diversity in Clinical Trials Career Development Program, a two-year program designed to support the career development of early-stage investigator-physicians underrepresented in medicine, or physicians who have a demonstrated commitment to increasing diversity in clinical research. The program will help fellows become independent clinical trial investigators who are engaged in advancing health equity through their research and mentoring.

Geriatric Faculty Scholars Grant

The Division of Geriatrics & Aging in the Department of Medicine is seeking applications for its Geriatric Faculty Scholars challenge grant. The grant will be awarded to early-stage URMC faculty with a specific interest in inter-professional geriatric education and practice. These faculty members will work with a mentor from their own division/department and a mentor in the Division of Geriatrics & Aging to create and implement a geriatric education program for their own division or department. Apply by Monday, February 8, 5:00 pm.

Center for Musculoskeletal Pilot Award

The University of Rochester Resource-Based Center for Musculoskeletal Biology and Medicine is requesting applications from new investigators for funding of pilot projects. Investigator-initiated pilot studies for full-time faculty who are either physician-scientists, research assistant professors or assistant professors who have not received NIH R01 or equivalent grant funding as a principal investigator are eligible to apply for research funding relevant to musculoskeletal diseases ($25,000 maximum for one year). Send completed proposals to Kristin Smith by Monday, March 15.
