President's Update

YCF began 2021 by welcoming two new board members: Perri Jo DeChristopher and Allen Staggers. Board members agree to serve a three-year term and may renew up to three times for a total of nine years. We value the diversity board and committee members bring to YCF in terms of age, gender, place of residence, race and skills.

YCF has launched an improved online scholarship application program. (Applications are due March 8 - see below!) The program is part of a large transition YCF is making to enhance software for greater efficiency and to position the organization for long term success.

In January, YCF distributed more emergency grants to nonprofits assisting with food insecurity, shelter and safety as a result of the pandemic. Over the past 10 months, $158,190 has been awarded to 45 nonprofit organizations across our five county service area. To read more about the donors who make these funds possible, the organizations helping vulnerable community members, or to apply for funding, visit our website.

Currently, YCF manages an asset pool of $18 million for more than 150 diverse funds benefiting five counties. By pooling assets, local people with philanthropic interests are able to easily and effectively support issues they care about immediately, or through their will.

Thank you to the donors who entrust YCF to assist with their philanthropy, as well as the 100+ volunteers who serve on our committees. We look forward to continuing our partnership to enhance the quality of life in our region.

With Appreciation,
Patty Showers Ryan

YCF Remembers Jean DeLynn

With great sadness, we share the news of the passing of Jean DeLynn.  Mrs. DeLynn and her late husband Laurence established the Jean and Laurence S. DeLynn Scholarship in 2007 with a $1 million gift to YCF’s predecessor, the Greater Morgantown Community Trust. To-date, this endowed scholarship has supported 99 students, making nearly $1.4 million in awards.

In their hometown of Morgantown, and their adopted hometown of Sarasota, Florida, the DeLynns also directed their volunteer and philanthropic efforts toward children and education. Whether serving as mentors or helping to provide summer arts and recreation activities, Mr. and Mrs. DeLynn always held the health and well-being of children in highest regard.  As such, much of their philanthropic giving centered around education.

YCF is grateful for the DeLynns’ generosity, which will forever commemorate their passion for education by providing scholarships for students in our region.
