Hopkins Activity Center News & Notes

Embrace Winter

Finish out your week with a Friday outdoor adventure on a Nordic Walk, meet our new Program Coordinator, and make a few new friends, all while enjoying the great outdoors. More details about the Activity Center Nordic Walking meet up this Friday at 2pm can be found here. Please sign up to attend.

Generational Pen Pals

As you may know, the Activity Center is host to a group of 27 second graders from Hopkins Public Schools using the building as their home-base for an experimental outdoor adventure class.

The Activity Center is looking to pair up senior adults with each student to exchange handwritten letters each week. Participants will communicate with the same student from now until early June.

Letter writing is a great way for the students to practice their writing and communication skills and will also give you something to look forward to in the mail. All correspondence is sent through the Activity Center and personal information is kept confidential. Only first names will be exchanged. To sign up as a Pen Pal, call or email the office at activitycenter@hopkinsmn.com

Where to Next?

Connect to Learning educational topics this week will take you to the waterfront. Visit the lagoon to discover the intelligence of dolphins, or take a look back at how a tiny boat, the Gerda III, played a critical role in carrying Jews to safety in Sweden during October of 1943. Click here to sign up for these and more Connect to Learning events.

Buddy Check

Are you unconnected digitally but would still like to have a social conversation? If so, the Activity Center is pairing up seniors to connect with a weekly phone call partner. This is a way to talk to someone else in your same situation and get a chance to reconnect with those whom you cannot meet with in person.

Please call the office if you are interested in participating in this program, or email activitycenter@hopkinsmn.com.
