GROUP MENTORING in 2021

Hello and Happy New Year! I hope you've managed to find respite from the heat of the last few days here in WA—I've certainly appreciated today's cooler change.

I'm writing to you out of the blue like this to let you know about the mentoring groups for writers that I facilitate. I ran a couple of groups in 2020 and because they were so successful, I’m running them again in 2021, commencing in the first week of March.

The groups are suitable for writers of any level and writing in any genre—fiction, non-fiction, short stories, memoir—but you probably need to be working on, or want to work on, a book-length project.

The aims of the groups are to:

  • learn better writing skills
  • set (achievable) goals and provide accountability
  • help each other stay motivated
  • develop a regular writing routine
  • progress your book
  • feel more confident about your writing

Groups run during the day and evening to cater for people who work. Numbers are capped at six per group.

What you get:

1. Monthly Meeting

In-person for about 2 hours. The first hour is for discussion and the second hour is for workshopping excerpts from members’ manuscripts—each member gets to workshop 2,000 words twice in the 6-month period.

2. Fortnightly Write Nights

On Tuesday evenings via Zoom. You write to a prompt and read your work to the group. The prompts and exercises are targeted towards technique and practising new skills.

3. Membership of a Private Facebook Group

This is the place to ask questions between meetings and set goals for the week. It's where I share writing-related tips and news, too.

COST
$405 for 6 months or $75 per month if paying monthly.

You can read more on my website, or contact me via email if you're interested in joining one of the groups in 2021.

TESTIMONIALS

'I've loved having a sounding board to test my ideas. I've loved getting one on one feedback from Louise specific to my story. I cannot forget to include the friendships I've made with like minded people. I've become so invested in their work and can't wait to support them further.'

'As an aspiring author, the group provided me with a wealth of support, resources and development. It remains a safe space where we are able to try new approaches to our writing, share our work, learn from and appreciate each writer's work.'

'It's hard to choose one 'best thing,' but I think being present and engaged with like-minded people, all trying to write novels or work on a writing project. We were all facing the same challenges, joys and sometimes insecurities. We cheered each other on, during a most extraordinary pandemic year of 2020. 'Camaraderie' in a word.'

'Feeling so encouraged, warmly supported, sharing with others. Really developing my writing further. I couldn’t have wished for anything better. Louise’s encouraging, warm support coupled with her generous knowledge-sharing has boosted my writing so well. To be in a group of dedicated, good-hearted writers is an added blessing.'

I also offer Private Mentoring and Manuscript Assessments, too.
