Baptism of Our Lord

Matthew 3:13-17

"Be careful, then, how you live not as unwise people, but as wise." - Ephesians 5:15

Sunday, you are invited to have ready a bowl of water, as we observe a reaffirmation of our baptismal vows.

This has been a dark and difficult week in the history of our nation, and the events in Washington have surely impacted the lives of our members. As Christians, we are called to "renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world" and "resist evil, injustice and oppression, in whatever forms they present themselves." How, though, do we recognize evil, injustice and oppression, when those whose worldview is so different from ours quote from the same Bible we do?

As we join together to reflect on the meaning of our baptism, may we be challenged to live as those who are careful and wise, seeking the will of God before all else.

This week, we begin a new sermon series (although this week's sermon will not have its originally intended focus). For the duration of this series, leading up to Ash Wednesday, we will worship together as one congregation. Services may be viewed any time Sunday morning on our website or Vimeo page. One hosted Facebook Premiere will occur at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday. We look forward to worshiping with you!

God Bless,

Rev. Mary

p.s. The decision to move to one service is a temporary one; we will return to a Traditional and Third Space service!

You are invited to join Dr. Mary Spradlin Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning January 13 (week one was delayed) for a time of fellowship and learning. We’ll be using Adam Hamilton’s study on Moses. You can purchase the book on your own (recommended!), or you are welcome to attend without reading the book.

Moses is one of the great heroes of the Bible. He bravely led God’s people out of slavery in Egypt; however, in doing so, he faced one challenge after another - including his own resistance to be the leader that God called him to be.

In this study, we will virtually travel with Rev. Adam Hamilton from Egypt to Mt. Sinai, the Nile, the Red Sea, and the wilderness exploring the sites of Moses’ life. As we travel and study, we’ll discover how we can turn our own reluctance into boldness.
