UNUS MUNDUS – Tributes to Isang Yun, Eunmi Ko, piano

To celebrate the centennial of Isang Yun’s birth in 2017, composers from far afield wrote solo pieces for pianist Eunmi Ko to perform as a tribute to him – eight musical worlds that come together in one: Unus Mundus. I’m thrilled to have contributed my piano solo piece Unus Mundus (One World) which gives the album its title.

My only premiere of 2020 was extra special. Livid Loneliness of Fear for Mezzo-Soprano, Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Percussion was commissioned by the Music in the American Wild Ensemble as part of their series entitled “The American Aviatrix” and premiered virtually on December 10, 2020. Being a long-time resident of Kansas, I chose to celebrate the famous American aviation pioneer and Kansas native, Amelia Earhart. The piece is a setting of Earhart's poem "Courage." This amazing performance features Ann Marie Wilcox-Daehn, mezzo-soprano; Emlyn Johnson, flute; Bill Kalinkos, clarinet; Sarah Peters, violin; Daniel Ketter, cello; Megan Arns, percussion.

A really fabulous live-streamed performance of The Voice of the Rain happened in November from Boston by the Juventas New Music Ensemble. You can still watch the performance by Nick Southwick, flute; Minjin Chung, cello and Tom Schmidt, percussion.
