Happy New Year! I hope to see you tomorrow for our family-friendly service service at 9:30 a.m. PST! As is our custom, the liturgy and sermon will be adapted for all God's children. There's some important news to share after the service, so please join us if you can. If you haven't already heard the news, St. Bede's called a new rector! The Rev. Dan Spors will officially join us on February 1. You can read more about Dan on the website.

Peace and all best,
Brendan Deocariza-Nee
Children's & Youth Minister

Virtual Christmas Pageant

In true 2020 fashion, we premiered a virtual Christmas pageant during St. Bede’s Christmas Eve service. The pageant emphasized themes of resilience and hope in an uncertain world. A big thank you to all who made it possible!

A recording (with closed captions) is privately available on YouTube. Email me for the link! Out of consideration for the privacy of our actors, we’re not sharing the video publicly.

Feast of the Epiphany

On Wednesday, January 6, we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany in remembrance of the wise people who brought gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to Jesus. In the words of Episcopal priests Jennifer McNally and Anna V. Ostenso Moore, "Epiphany is an invitation to follow stars, listen to dreams, and step out of what we have always known." If you have some chalk lying around, consider trying this fun and faithful Epiphany Home Blessing.
Talking About the Violence at the U.S. Capitol

The storming of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday by a violent mob left many of us shaken, frightened, and deeply upset.

Matt Alio, Head of Trinity School, shared: "For parents, providing a sense of stability and hope amid chaos helps empower children and helps them take a positive and proactive role in building a more just future. While many young children are unaware of yesterday’s violence or it may be too abstract and feel too far away to be impactful, there may be some children who feel a need to discuss."

Here are some resources to help you have those challenging conversations:
I also recommend watching the Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry's Word to the Church: "Who Shall We Be?" (Full transcript available here.)

“The ultimate Mystery of being, the ultimate Truth, is Love. This is the essential structure of reality. ... There is in Being an infinite desire to give itself in love and this gift of Self in love is for ever answered by a return of love ... and so the rhythm of the universe is created.” – Saint Bede
