Dear Members and Friends of the Skidaway Democratic Club:
What a week of great elation with the successful outcomes of our efforts to elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock as our new DEMOCRATIC Senators for Georgia, and what a day of horror we witnessed with the ransacking of our beloved Capitol on that same day.
First, we need to celebrate and thank you all — for those who worked writing postcards, curing ballots, poll watching and more...the successes achieved could not have occurred without you. Georgia is BLUE in the U.S. Senate and the Country is BLUE at the Presidential and Congressional levels.
Second, we have forged new relationships with like-minded Democrats around Savannah and shown that, although we are a relatively small club, we can have a major impact. We need to keep those new relationships strong as we move forward in holding our newly elected officials accountable on the issues that are so important to us — Healthcare, Voting Rights, Immigration Reform, Gun Safety, and Climate Control. We also need to keep working together to turn Georgia BLUE in the US House of Representatives and at the State levels, particularly two years from now when we hope Stacey Abrams runs again for Governor.
Finally, we need to address the insurrection by a mob encouraged by President Trump. Words can't fully express our collective outrage and sadness that "Our House" should be so shamefully desecrated and such lawlessness was beamed for the world to see.
With the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris and the swearing-in of Senators Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, we can lift our spirits and vow to work with them to repair our democracy for all Georgians and the U.S as a whole and to restore our credibility with our allies around the world.
