Great Scott!

👋 Greetings, Monday, January 11th. Sheila here.

Maybe, as Doc questioned in Back to the Future, there is a problem with the earth's gravitational pull. It could help explain some of the events of last week. If America's favorite fictional man of science really had invented a time machine out of a DeLorean, would you get in it? I think I'll stay right here to see how the the 2020 sequel pans out.

❄️While we wait-n-see if there's snow, the weather service in Birmingham invites you to walk in 30 winter wonderlands and vote for your favorite frosty photo on FB. The winner will be their new cover pic for the rest of January, so get those votes in by EOD Tuesday.

⭐️If you're looking to the sky for snowflakes, have a listen to Taylor Hicks' take on "Stars Fell on Alabama." It syncs up nicely with the January 8th realease of the new movie of the same name–and the cap'n of the Soul Patrol is in the film too!

🏈And finally, there's this game tonight that's *kind of* a big deal. Watch the Crimson Tide match-up against the Buckeyes for all the marbles and bragging rights in the NCAA National Championship Game on ESPN at 7PM. Mac Jones if you're reading this, just don't drop the crystal trophy like Wisconsin did last month.

TV timeout

GO team! ESPN has the stats to state that the Birmingham market takes the #1 spot for the 12th year in a row. I'm gonna go out on a study goal post here and say ya'll pull for Alabama and Auburn pretty hard. P.S. I did a little digging and Columbus, Ohio, is way back there at #10. Puh-leeeze. 😝

For the love of local

Fill your plates with new flavors for the new year during the Birmingham Restaurant Week: Winter Edition. Over 50 local vendors will offer prix-fixe menus to satisfy your curious tastebuds and their bottom line from Thursday, Jan. 14 through Sunday, Jan. 31. Check out this tasty lineup and plot your culinary attack! Sponsored by Birmingham Restaurant Week

Live, from the bubble

USA Today knew to include Birmingham's Atomic Lounge in a recent feature about owning a small business in a global pandemic. The bubble-blowing barkeeps were asked about being social while social distancing. Pour yourself a drink and read all about it here.

Fab without the filters

These 9 Instagram-worthy spots in Birmingham are vibing an aesthetic so clutch you won't even need to use the caramel latte filter. Just coordinate that outfit, point and shoot! Photo via Shoppe on FB

Bloom where you're planted

A lot of us are already planted at home on Houseplant Appreciation Day, and I must say  my few plants are faring better as a result. Bring a little green into your house from Birmingham area plant nurseries ready to nurse your budding green thumbs.

Spread the word

Whether it snows in Alabama or not tonight, there's no doubt it will certainly be a cold one. Birmingham's warming station at Boutwell Auditorium is open now through Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 5PM-7AM daily. Donations of some much-appreciated items would help the homeless community too.

Take a shot

Phase 1a of the COVID-19 vaccination rollout shifts to Phase 1b in Alabama on January 18th. Chances are good that even if you don't make the cut for 1b, someone in your circle of influence does, so look sharp!

I feel the earth move

Irondale's very own Motion Industries broke ground on their new $11M expansion project in December. This means more jobs to the historic city that wants you to know it is more than just a whistle-stop.

Adorable + adoptable

You lookin' at me? Yes. Don't let Parka's sideways smile steer you off. He's a gentle giant at Shelby Humane, who is also treat-motivated. SAME.

Got jobs? We'll promote 'em. Contact us!

🎂Happy birthday to our videographer/photographer Matthew Niblett. He's our living-breathing mood board who makes Bham Now vibe its very best–even when we're working from home in our jammies. Have a good one. Oh, and YEET!
